This weekend’s guests, potential commitment

January 26, 2018

South Carolina recruiting guests

Official visitors (universities listed are ones they either have visited or will visit before National Signing Day)

  • 4-star OT Dylan Wonnum — Tucker (Ga.) HS: Auburn and Tennessee
  • 4-star DT Rick Sandidge — Concord (N.C.) HS: Georgia and North Carolina
  • 3-star DE John Mincey — Clinch County HS (Homerville, Ga.): Tennessee* and Florida State
  • 4-star WR Warren Thompson — Armwood HS (Seffner, Fla.) Florida State* and Tennessee
*Predicted landing spot.

Unofficial visitors

  • 4-star 2019 LB Kalen Deloach — Islands HS (Savannah, Ga.)
South Carolina was first to offer Deloach, who’s had a big month with offers from Auburn, Clemson and LSU. According to 247Sports, Deloach (6 feet, 1 inch, 215 pounds) is the No. 14 outside linebacker in the country.

  • 2019 TE Tyler Fromm — Warner Robbins (Ga.) HS
South Carolina was first the first Power 5 offer for the younger brother of Georgia’s starting quarterback. If the Dawgs pull the trigger, they’ll be tough to top. South Carolina has an opportunity to make a strong impression on Fromm (6-4, 215), who should have more offers.

  • 2019 3-star TE Garmon Randolph — Jefferson (Ga.) HS
Auburn, Florida, Louisville, Michigan and North Carolina State are among the offers for the 6-6, 215-pound prospect. He’s listed by 247Sports as the No. 11 tight end in the country.

  • 2020 5-star DE Jacolbe Cowan — Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.)
The No. 7 overall prospect in the class had a classmate visit South Carolina last weekend. Wide receiver Porter Rooks is No. 10 overall. The Gamecocks are off to a nice start with their pursuit of both.

Offers out

Since Wednesday, South Carolina has sent out at least 10 offers to prospects from the 2019, ’20 and ’21 classes.

  • 4-star 2019 WR Zion Puckett — Spalding HS (Griffin, Ga.)
Rivals lists Puckett as an athlete, probably because he’s a better safety prospect than wide receiver. But he’s appropriately rated with 4 stars as a wide receiver.

  • 4-star 2019 WR Kenyon Jackson — Grayson (Ga.) HS
At 6-6, Jackson is an intriguing option.  I’d like to see some highlights from last season of the former LSU commit; I wonder how he’s ranked ahead of Puckett.

  • 2020 DE Zykeivous Walker — Schley County HS (Ellaville, Ga.)
A big, imposing looking guy at 6-6, 240 pounds who plays outside linebacker and defensive end for his high school. From this perspective, he looks like a guy who will have his hand on the ground. Looks powerful, uses his hands well to fend off blockers.

  • 2020 DE Myles Murphy — Hillgrove HS (Powder Springs, Ga.)
I’d like to see Walker doing what Murphy (6-4, 230) does and Murphy doing what Walker does. I’d like to see Murphy as an OLB/DE, not just on the end, like his highlights show. He has a quick first step, can run well, looks to be a little more sudden than Walker, but not as strong.

Also:

  • 2019 4-star ATH Hakeem Beamon — UNC commitment (Chesterfield, Va.)
  • 2019 3-star DE Jamin Graham — Etowah HS (Atalla, Ala.)
  • 2019 3-star OT Jaalon Gupton — Stratford Comprehensive (Nashville, Tenn.)
  • 2020 RB Deondre Jackson — Stephenson HS (Lithonia, Ga.)
  • 2020 CB Keshawn Lawrence — Ensworth HS (Nashville)
  • 2021 OL Eli Sutton — Ensworth HS (Nashville)
  • 2021 OL William Griffin — Pearl-Cohn HS (Nashville)
The possible commitment

Three-star combo guard Jermaine Couisnard will reveal his college decision on Saturday night. South Carolina, one of the schools he listed as a finalist, is the only place he’s been for an official visit.

The No. 192 overall prospect in the Class of 2018 is doing a post-graduate year at Montverde Academy in Florida, but went to high school in East Chicago, Ind. His other finalists: Louisville, Illinois, Virginia Tech, UMass and Bradley.

According to the 247Sports composite, Cousinard (6-4, 185) is the No. 15 combo guard in the country.

Let's hope we will have as many as we can get
