I am still sick about Marcus. Sometimes life is just not fair. There are so many sorry people out there who seem to live life with a four leaf clover in their pocket and then a wonderful young man like Marcus continues to suffer like this.
There were some positives from yesterday however. Connor Shaw was very good, and so close to being great. Had he not barely overthrown Ace at the goalline and if Byrd had hauled in the perfect strike when Shaw got drilled on the blitz, his numbers would've been ever better.
The defense had a really rough day, but it was against the best offense we'll see all year. I don't think anyone else on our schedule is even close to Tennessee on offense. You saw what they did to Georgia, and then they pushed us to the brink too. However, when the chips were down, Clowney made the play we'd been waiting for and then in desperation time, Vic Hampton made a beautiful play to seal it.
Luckily, the coaches have an open week to reassess where we are and how to proceed without Marcus. Now that our top playmaker is out, I really hope we see the coaches make an effort to get the ball to some others we've been waiting to see emerge - Adams and Roland. I know when we go 5-wide, it's normally a designed QB run, but I'd love to see what Adams and/or Anderson would do against a DB on a regular basis. Whenever we don't have the tight end in on the line, I think those two could be effective out in the open field against some midgets.
Adam Yates made a clutch field goal yesterday, which turned out to be the difference on the scoreboard. As much trouble as we've had on special teams, I like that Adam is becoming a solid kicker when we need 3 points. Also, I don't know if I've seen it mentioned how clutch the play was when Kenny Miles brought down their punt returner late in the game after Hull's long punt.
I'd take a loss 10 times out of 10 rather than seeing Marcus carted off like that, but I hope this inspires the guys to play hard for him the rest of the way. We still have a chance for a great season. We need to be 9-2 going into that Clemson game to take their butts down a notch.
