Raiqwon O’Neal
DE Raiqwon O’Neal of Conway is a classic case of a climber in the slippery world of recruiting. O’Neal was little more than a blip on the recruiting radar going into 2017. Thursday that blip became a blob as he landed offers from USC, Penn State and Michigan. They join earlier offers from the likes of Purdue, Rutgers, Louisville, Kentucky, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
O’Neal worked out Thursday for Will Muschamp and Lance Thompson at a Gamecock camp and picked up his offer from Muschamp after showing him some of his best moves.
“My explosion off the ball at the point of attack and getting off the blocks,” O’Neal said. “They said I was coachable and they want me at South Carolina to be part of the rebuilding process and be part of an SEC championship team. They said they need guys like me down there on their defensive line. They are up there (on his list) for sure.”
O’Neal said he hasn’t shortened his list because he wants to take more visits. He might visit Michigan the end of next week and in July he’s looking at visits to Maryland, Rutgers, West Virginia and Louisville.
O’Neal said he doesn’t foresee making a decision this summer and is looking at a point during the middle of his season for committing. O’Neal also plays basketball and is a track athlete for the Tigers.
O’Neal also plays defensive tackle and offensive tackle. He played mainly on the offensive side last season.
