LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - South Carolina was the first to offer class of 2015 three-star tight end Connor Redmond (Lawrenceville, Ga./Archer) and the Gamecocks remain his leader with Georgia and Florida State rounding out his top three.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has offers from South Carolina, Boston College, Louisville, Purdue, Virginia and Kansas State.

What gives the Gamecocks the edge?

"The feel of it," Redmond said. "I love the feel of Columbia, I love the coaches. It just looks like a place that I can fit in perfectly. It's not too far from home, but it's far enough away that I'm not home. It's got a good fit. The academics are real nice. I want to major in business and it's got a real good business school. It's just got a lot of good things to offer and I really loved Columbia."

Redmond, who has a rating of 0.8417 in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, is being recruited to Carolina by quarterbacks/tight ends coach G.A. Mangus.

"We've gotten to know each other pretty well," Redmond said. "We've talked on a weekly basis. I'm actually going to call him next week and touch base, but we've gotten pretty close."

South Carolina landed a tight end in three-star Kyle Markway a little over a week ago, but Redmond says the Gamecocks are still coming at him hard.

"I DMed (Mangus) about it and he was telling me that yeah, even though he's (committed), he's more of a lineman sort of tight end," Redmond said. "He still wants me and another guy (Chris) Clark, he talked to me about. I'm definitely still high on their list."

Georgia has told Redmond, who ranks as the No. 29 tight end in his class, that it wants him to camp with them and that they have a couple of tight ends ahead of him right now. An offer from the in-state Bulldogs would certainly grab his attention though.

"I've grown up a Georgia fan. I've always been a Georgia fan," Redmond said. "I love Athens. I love the school. My family went to Georgia. It's just kind of a home school. I just love Athens. It's a great place to be.

A Florida State coach visited Redmond on Friday and the Seminoles also hope Redmond will camp with them.

"I used to live in Florida too, so it's kind of a lifestyle I've always liked," Redmond says. "I like the football team, I like the direction they're going, and I just like Tallahassee."

Redmond plans to commit before the beginning of his senior season. He plans to be back at South Carolina this summer and for two or three games in the fall.
