Tindall says not too much longer; USC longshot for Dean; USC offers another Georgia junior; Chapman RB given USC PWO offer

December 08, 2017

“I’m about to commit pretty soon.”  That’s what Spring Valley LB Channing Tindall told Lou Bezjak of TheState.com Thursday night after receiving the first annual Mr. Richland County Football Player of the year. This week Tindall had visits from USC’s Will Muschamp and Coleman Hutzler, Auburn linebackers coach and Spring Valley grad Travis Williams, and Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann. He did not say when he will decide or if he has a favorite.  His only official visit thus far was to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.  Tindall was selected for the Shrine Bowl but will sit out the game while resting a bruised shoulder.  He plans to play in the Army All American Game.  He also is a finalist for Mr. Football and will be in Myrtle Beach Saturday for that award presentation during halftime of the Touchstone Energy North-South Game.

DB Trey Dean of Hampton, GA decommitted from Tennessee Thursday, the day after in home visits with USC’s Travaris Robinson and with Kentucky.  He will visit Kentucky this weekend and Florida next weekend. With him signing on December 20th, Dean said he likely won’t visit USC officially though he’s been there twice before.  He said Kentucky and Florida are in the best position with him and he’s also looking at Alabama. He said Alabama coaches probably will visit next week.

USC offered 2019 DE Colby Wooden of Lawrenceville, GA.

USC target DB Asante Samuel told Rivals Miami is making a strong push for him now. He has taken an official to USC and plans to visit Florida State, Miami and Ohio State in January. He has been a Florida State commitment.

USC coaches were in to see OL Jonathan Gwyn of Charlotte Wednesday night per 247Sports. USC and NC State are his top two. He plays in a state title game Saturday.

Chapman RB DJ Twitty received a walk-on offer from USC.  He’s in the Touchstone Energy North-South game.

New Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt contacted DE Dorian Gerald Thursday night. Gerald, also a USC target, will visit Louisville this weekend.

LB Channing Tindall Georgia bound. Huge miss but not much our coaches can do to overcome the Dad and the fact that UGA is in the playoff, etc.

Until  the Gamecocks can get a product on the field that passes the eye test, and  the Gamecocks win some big games, it’s going to be tough to win recruiting battles like this or the XT deal.

Gamecocks are adding good players in each class and  believe  the coaching staff are doing an incredible job of evaluating and developing.

Until  the Gamecocks win big, though, it’s going to be an uphill climb for any prospect on Gamecock list that is contemplating Clemson or Georgia. Tennessee has fallen into a good coach, imo, with Pruitt. He will be able to recruit well. They will be tough to beat on kids they want.

It is also extremely important that he get the right guy to be the OC. I’m personally leaning toward McClendon, although that’s just my gut telling me it’s the right move. High risk but reward could be extraordinary.

It is vitally important that we have a big 2018. Vitally important. Schedule sets up well and i believe in Muschamp and think he will succeed. No one will outwork him. If the Gamecocks win 10+ in 18 and put a quality offense on the field, the Gamecocks will win big on the recruiting trail. If  they stumble and put a subpar product on the field on the offensive side of the ball, Muschamp won’t make it then the Gamecocks will be headed for the cellar. Very, very tough road ahead for this program to  succeed. Not impossible just need some things to fall in place which now are all falling the other way. Starts with recruiting repeat do whatever it takes to get the players need to be successful.
