Just heard on Game Day that Texas has parted ways with Tom Herman. It's being reported Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian will become the new head coach. I'm a little surprised they didn't give Herman one more year. So much for coaches on the hot seat being safe during COVID-19. Maybe that rumor about Coach Herman calling Tanner was true

Texas has got to be one of the worst jobs in college football.  Forget the piles of money, the facilities and that Austin is a cool town; THAT fan base and the wealthy boosters are certifiably insane, intrusive and unrealistic.  I live in Houston and can tell you they have also lost their minds over the fact that A&M completely out maneuvered them by joining the SEC, hiring Jimbo Fisher and almost making the playoffs.  Sark will have a tough time there........  It would take a really strong coach with proven success and experience to tell the boosters to back off, but they will never learn, they will pull their strings and try to control everything.

I've heard and read about that fact. Apparently, the rich boosters control the football program. I think that's why everyone was surprised back when they hired Charlie Strong.  Sark is going to have a tough time keeping them happy. He'll be judged against A&M and Jimbo just like you suggested.

Tom Herman was 32-18 in four seasons and 4-0 in bowl games.  He was recruiting well too.  I think had they given him another year they would have seen a pretty good season.

Sark better make sure he is well compensated. That bunch is really crazy.

I would be pissed if I was a Longhorn fan. I'm not sure that Herman was the right guy for the job, but I really don't think Sarkisian is the answer.

Sarkisian has a worse W-L record than Herman. Someone explain this to me.

Speculation about a potential return for Will Muschamp to Texas football is already beginning.

Just hours after the Longhorns fired head coach Tom Herman, the program hired Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.

With a new, offensive-minded head coach, the next logical place to look for a potential coaching change is at the defensive coordinator position.

According to Texas Longhorns reporter Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman, Muschamp could be a sleeper for a DC job with the program.

Hope they hire him and pay him a buttload, to reduce the $$ we owe him for firing.
Exactly.

I think Muschamp's niche is cleaning up a bad locker room and then relying upon a good HC to get the performance out of the players after the locker room is squared away.

There are probably a good number of programs that can use Muschamp's skills with the right awareness of his limitations.
