October 24, 2017
South Carolina’s recruiting efforts have picked up some serious steam this week now that two of country’s top 2018 prospects are scheduled to take official visits.
Florida State cornerback commitment Asante Samuel Jr., a 4-star from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has confirmed with SEC Country that he will take an official visit to South Carolina this weekend for the Vanderbilt game.
Samuel, the No. 13 cornerback in the country, according to the 247Sports composite, has been committed to the Seminoles since April. The Gamecocks hosted him in the summer of 2016.
SEC Country has also confirmed that 5-star defensive end KJ Henry (Clemmons, N.C.) will return to Columbia on the weekend of Nov. 10, when South Carolina plays Florida. The Gamecocks are also set to host 3-star defensive end Jarrett Jackson, a Louisville commitment from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Henry, who’s ranked as the country’s No. 2 weakside defensive end, is scheduled to announce a commitment on Dec. 20 at West Forsyth High School. That’s tentatively set for 5 p.m. and will be carried live on one of the ESPN networks.
His official visit to Clemson is on tap for this weekend. Georgia and Virginia Tech have already had him in for officials.
Tennessee defensive end commitment Dorian Gerald (College of the Canyons) is expected to take an official visit to South Carolina the weekend after Henry and Jackson are in town.
