Top linebacker, kicker prospects return to South Carolina

Muschamp needs some ballers
Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield (Shelby, N.C.) returned to South Carolina on Sunday for the Georgia game. The No. 2-ranked inside linebacker in the Class of 2018 continues to list three favorites: South Carolina, Virginia Tech and North Carolina.
“Those are the three that are going to get me probably,” Hollifield said, “Unless something crazy happens — anything can happen. Clemson was my favorite team last year and they aren’t now.”
Sunday was Hollifield’s second game at South Carolina.
“At first, I didn’t think anybody was going to be there,” he said. “It was a messed up game time, but there was actually a big crowd there. I thought it was pretty impressive. There were 77,000 there, they said. It was great. I got to talk to a lot of coaches.”
That included Will Muschamp.
“He said they’re building a foundation,” Hollifield said. “Right now, they need ballers, because they’re setting a foundation now. Once they get that foundation set, all they’ve got to do is get good players and they’ll be top in the country, best in the country.”
Linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler and running backs coach Bobby Bentley, the recruiter of record, also spoke with the 6-foot-1, 220-pound prospect.

“(Hutzler) said I was the type of player they needed right now, to fill holes and stuff like that. I thought (Sunday) was a good example,” Hollifield said. “I didn’t think they were too soft, but they just weren’t filling the holes that well.
“Nick Chubb just ran all over them. He was getting 4 and 5 yards after contact. That can’t happen if you want to win.”
Hollifield visited Alabama a week earlier for the Kentucky game. He’ll see Virginia Tech later this month for the Miami game. He will also head to Penn State for the Ohio State game.
“I plan on going to USC, UNC and Virginia Tech two times, at least, this year,” Hollifield said. “Those are probably my favorite, by far. I want to go check them out.”
The No. 123 overall prospect in the country is in no big rush to make a decision.
“When I feel it in my heart,” Hollifield said. “But if I don’t, I want to take my official visits next year and commit sometime late in the season or a little bit after the season.”
This season, he’s averaging around 11 tackles per game and 4 to 5 tackles for losses.
Rock Hill kicker sees first game at USC
Before Sunday, B.T. Potter had already been on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium. The 2018 prospect from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C., did plenty of kicking in last year’s AAA state championship game.
His experience on Sunday also went well.
“It was great … ‘Sandstorm’ was pretty crazy, I enjoyed it. I’d never been to a South Carolina game before that, but I like the location, like where it’s at, and all the stuff around it,” Potter said.
While having lunch, he spoke with Hutzler. Potter also saw Bentley on the field before kickoff.
“We just talked about (Bentley) coming to my school and he’s going to come to another game, stuff like that,” Potter said.
He added, “Coach Hutzler said that he can’t offer me before he sees me. He wants me to kick in front of him. He said that he wants me to come down to the camp this summer and he’s going to try to come to my school this spring.”

Clemson hosted Potter for a visit earlier this season. Virginia Tech could score one for the Virginia Tech game.
South Carolina will have him back for UMass and Tennessee. Potter will return to Clemson for the South Carolina game.
This season, Potter is 9 for 11 on field goals, with a long from 49 yards. Only one of his kickoffs has not been a touchback.
New offer out
South Carolina offered 2018 linebacker Channing Tindall on Monday. The 2018 prospect from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., tweeted the news that evening.
Tindall, who’s listed as a 6-foot-1.5, 206-pound prospect, spoke with Lou Bezjak of The State newspaper after the offer.
“I grew up attending games at South Carolina, so it is mind-blowing that I have been blessed with the opportunity to play at the same stadium where I attended games when I was younger,” Tindall said.
Coastal Carolina and Mercer have also offered.
South Carolina had him on campus last month for the East Carolina game.
