Tuesday morning recruiting

Dec. 07, 2021

Officials with the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl North/South Game announced Monday afternoon Dutch Fork WR Antonio Williams had withdrawn from Saturday’s game due to an apparent ankle injury suffered late in Saturday’s loss to Gaffney in the 5A State Championship Game. Williams is one of the top uncommitted players in the country, not to mention one of the most talented receivers, and his absence is a loss for the game. But it does give him a chance to focus more on his recruiting with Signing Day eight days off. Williams can now entertain more coaches at his home or school if he chooses, and he will have time to take an official visit this coming weekend, possibly to Clemson or possibly to Georgia, if he chooses. He has not taken an official visit to either. He has taken official visits to USC, Ole Miss and Auburn. Gamecock coach Shane Beamer had planned to make his in-home visit Saturday after Williams returned from Myrtle Beach, but that visit could now be moved up earlier in the week in case Williams travels this weekend. Clemson247 reported Monday that Clemson recruiters Brandon Streeter and Tyler Grisham visited Williams on Monday. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has yet to make his in-home visit and the extra time this week will give him that opportunity if he so chooses. Williams plans to sign on the 15th but won’t enroll early.

Beamer did make his in-home visit Monday with DT D’Andre Martin of Durham, NC. Martin decommitted from Virginia Tech Sunday. He took an official visit with the Gamecocks for the Auburn weekend. Martin said Beamer arrived around 10:30 AM and they just had a casual conversation. “We were just talking about football and how my story went from me changing positions (from WR to DE). Things like that, not anything too crazy.” Martin seems to be strongly focused on the Gamecocks at this point and will announce on the 15th.

WR Camden Brown of Fort Lauderdale Monday named his top five as USC, Pitt, Florida State, Auburn and Georgia. He’s a former Pitt commitment who took an official visit to Auburn last weekend. He had scheduled an official visit to USC for this coming weekend, but he has changed that to Georgia. Brown said last week he plans to sign on the 15th.

Gamecocks offered 2023 TE Andrew Rappleyea (6-4 215) who attends school in Milton, MA.
