Two expected to announce today and other recruiting notes of the day
Dec. 24, 2015
Two commitment announcements are planned for Thursday. DE Keir Thomas of Miami is choosing between USC and Arkansas. He has not set a time for his announcement. And Shrine Bowl DB Troy Pride of Greer will announce his intentions on Twitter at 4:00 PM. He has not narrowed a long list that includes Clemson, USC, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State.
DE Mykelle McDaniel of Loganville, GA was offered by Maryland. He favored USC under previous staff but apparently the new staff has not showed the same interest to this point.
USC coach Will Muschamp Wednesday reaffirmed offers to a pair of 2017 running backs offered by the previous staff, D’Andre Swift of Philadelphia and Anthony McFarland Jr. of Hyattsville, MD.
WR Rick Wells of Jacksonville, who was heavily recruited by USC’s former staff, said he has not heard from the Gamecocks’ new staff. He remains committed to Florida but has set an official visit to Virginia Tech for January 23rd. He will visit Florida the following weekend.
DE Tyreik Martin of Valley, AL, who recently was offered by USC, announced a decommitment from Missouri Tuesday night. He said while Missouri remains #1 on his list, he does plan to take other official visits.
Georgia Tech is the latest school to contact DB Nick McCloud of South Pointe. “They want me to come down for an official visit.” McCloud said he talked with the Yellow Jackets two days ago. He has taken an official visit to NC State and is planning to visit USC January 15th. The Gamecocks have not yet offered. He’s also hearing from NC State, Vanderbilt and Appalachian State and those are his current top three. McCloud said he like to decide within the next two weeks if possible.
According to Georgia Military JC coach Bert Williams, he is expecting his defensive end Kalan Ritchie to resign with USC in February. Ritchie signed with the Gamecocks out of Goose Creek High School in 2014 and played the last two seasons at GMA. Williams said he has been in touch with the new USC staff about Ritchie. “I have had no discussion with USC that involves them not taking Kalan,” the coach said. “He is set to graduate in March and plans are for him to go to USC.” USC also has OL Akeem Cooperwood coming from GMA.
