Two South Carolina basketball signees ranked among nation’s top 150 players

May 07, 2019

For only the third time since Rivals started such a list, South Carolina has two signed basketball recruits among the national site’s final ranking of top 150 players.

Jalyn McCreary is the country’s No. 133 player in the 2019 class and Trae Hannibal is No. 146, according to the rankings released Tuesday.

Rivals began its “Top 150” rankings in 2003. USC that year had No. 92 Renaldo Balkman and No. 101 Brandon Wallace. In 2014, signed Gamecocks Marcus Stroman (94) and TeMarcus Blanton (135) made the list. (READ MORE)

Since those 2003 guys Balkman and Wallace, we haven't had a lot of success with these guys. Thornwell of course stayed his full career at USC, and Dozier only stayed 2 years, but helped Thornwell bring us to our first Final Four. The others all only stayed 1 or 2 years at USC, and not because they went pro. Blanton got his degree at USC, but as a medical hardship.

Hopefully McCreary and Hannibal pick up Coach Martin's defense and can contribute fairly early. I know they are young, but adding them to Lawson, Bryant, Minaya, and Couisnard could help our team take a step forward next season....
