Two USC guards up for the Bob Cousy Award

USC guards LaShay Page and Bruce Ellington are both candidates for this year’s Bob Cousy Award. That honor is given annually to the top point guard in college basketball. Page and Ellington are on a list of over 80 candidates up for the award.

Page, a senior, is averaging 11.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. This is his first season with the Gamecocks after transferring in from Southern Miss. Last season he helped the Golden Eagles earn an NCAA Tournament bid.

Ellington has only played in four games this season because of his obligations to the football team. In his limited action he’s still managed to average almost 10 points and three rebounds per game. Ellington will not play again until after the Gamecocks Outback Bowl game on January 1st.

South Carolina senior guard LaShay Page and junior guard Bruce Ellington have been named candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame released on Thursday. The duo joins a list of over 80 candidates from around the country for the prestigious award.

The long list of candidates will be whittled down to 20 on January 1st and the winner will be announced at the Final Four in Atlanta.
