UNC hires Bill Belichick

My opinion is it will be a disaster. He's old, he's not used to having to recruit, and he's very gruff. A lot of players now have to be handled with kid gloves, and I don't think his style will work in college. Kids get their feelings hurt and will move on. Time will tell.

All hinges on his staff but I’m with you I don’t see how he relates. I’m pretty sure most feel that he was a good coach who happened to have one of the all time great QBs. He fielded good teams around him but I don’t see how he goes into a living room to sell UNC to recruits. He’ll need a very good staff for this to work out but it will be interesting to watch.

Brady won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay, while things got away from BB at Foxborough.

Flip it around and look at the success of Sam Darnold at Minnesota and Russell Wilson with the Steelers right now.

They're still the Big Blue Feet regardless. LOL

It may or may not work out. I can’t remember how old Holtz was when he came to USC. But I think SOS was around 60.

Both gave us some great seasons but the end for both wasn’t pretty as they got older and lost energy, motivation or what have you.

I see the same with Belichick. And he’s 72.

Saw some similar comments by some guys who played for him (Brady was one of them). He's a micro-manager who would be a strange fit in the CFB world.
Plus can you imagine him dealing with some player's parents? 😬

Hard to see where UNC is going with this. How do you end this if it goes ugly like it did @ Pats?

In my opinion, Belichik will set up an NFL type organizational structure, with himself as Head Coach and GM. Pretty sure a lot of the recruiting will be handled by the other coaches.

At one time there was a sticking point to UNC hiring Belichik over his insistence that his son be named coach in waiting after he leaves -- now that sounds exactly like Holtz and Skip.

This was truly a head scratcher until I learned his father coached at UNC and I can see the love and motivation he has for the school. I think this is similar to the Deion hire, he is a polarizing figure that will do it his way regardless of outside noise and he has the cache to do this. It will go very well or be a very fast burning garbage fire that will be allowed to burn too long... It will not hurt my feelings to watch him try and put out a dumpster fire for a few years lol

Right.

Brady took over after Drew Bledsoe went down. Nobody knew who he was or cared about him.

I remember Brady saying after he became the starter he was just glad he didn't have to sell insurance.
Ok, but Brady was not someone nobody wanted after one season, he had a pretty good career at Michigan and I'm not sure Belichecks luck just didn't trip into Brady and this is what made him a great coach, he hasn't really had any success outside of the Brady years...
Flute played one year, his last year and he did not make him great, they did not win.
Harrison was an All Pro as a Charger before coming to NE, Gilmore was All Pro before coming to NE and Byrd played one year, he did not make him great, they did not win but Byrd had his best year as a pro...

The Patriots had a ton of great players outside of Brady. Brady just outshined most of them and rightly so. They rarely over spent or drafted top skill players but they had some excellent role players and a top 5 TE of all time. Great O, Defense, Kickers. Total myth that they did it with a bunch of nobodies.
