Update on DE Kelby Collins
SPORTSTALK / July 27, 2022DE Kelby Collins of Gardendale, AL is moving closer to a decision. He has a final list of USC, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Oklahoma. He is taking unofficial visits to Alabama Thursday and Florida Friday and Saturday. He felt the need to check those two out again before making his decision.
“After this weekend, hopefully I’ll have in my mind where I want to go and just go ahead and get it over with before the season,” Collins said. “Hopefully, next week or the week after.”
Collins made official visits in June to USC, Georgia and Florida. He also visited USC the weekend of their spring game in April. The Gamecocks remain in regular contact with defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas the front man.
“They are still one of my top schools,” Collins said. “I like them. I like what they are offering.”
As he ponders a decision, Collins said he’ll focus on two factors most important to him in determining which program checks the boxes.
“Location and how I feel,” Collins said. “I feel like I can’t go wrong, so it’s really just based on how I feel. As of tonight, I don’t actually (have a decision). That’s why I’m trying to take these extra two visits.”
But he does have a leader heading down the homestretch.
“I would say Georgia would be on top right now,” Collins said. “I hear a lot from Georgia, like two times a week at least.” Collins added that Florida right now would be second on his list.
Collins is one of the top players in Alabama and one of the top defensive end prospects nationally. He had a junior season of 109 tackles with 17 sacks.
