Class of 2014 four-star DT Dexter Wideman (Saluda/Saluda) committing to Florida State obviously came as a shock to many and even to Wideman's coaching staff at Saluda. Wideman had originally planned to sit down with the staff before committing somewhere and didn't mention anything about possibly committing to FSU earlier Monday at workouts, so it was a surprise when he committed to the Seminoles that night.

Wideman, who hasn't taken too many visits, especially out of state, is an impressionable kid who is enamored with Florida State at the moment and really did have a good trip there last week. As we've said, Jay Graham has done a solid job and has sold Wideman on the opportunity to play as a freshman at FSU and on the idea of getting away from home.

Since the FSU commitment, Wideman has called his recruiter G.A. Mangus and the current plan is for Wideman to still visit for the Gamecocks' Black Magic camp. This will be the Gamecocks' chance to counter back and the sense I get is that, even if he remains committed to the Noles following that trip, it could be more of a 50-50 battle with the two teams tied if that trip goes as well as expected. Either way, the sense I get is that this one could be far from over -- the first step for Carolina is making sure the trip happens on Friday.
