Updated football roster - new guys and switches

07/26/13

South Carolina has updated its online football roster, and added the numbers of the recruiting class, plus a few walk-ons.

(Before I get into it, I want to tell you that this may stick just for the first day – if that – of practice. Guys have been known to switch numbers throughout fall camp. I’ll keep you updated as best I can).

Number switches
Ronnie Martin has changed from 10 to 24
Patrick Fish has changed from 13 to 18
D.J. Park has changed from 60 to 69

The new guys
(Recruiting class and walk-ons who have already joined)
23 Larenz Bryant
 32 Mohamed Camara
 3 Pharoh Cooper
 26 Elliott Fry
 94 Kelsey Griffin
 14 Ali Groves
 39 Max Huggins
 55 David Johnson
 52 Bryce King
 70 Alan Knott
24 Ronnie Martin (enrolled in spring)
6 Connor Mitch (enrolled in spring)
10 Skai Moore

69 D.J. Park (enrolled in spring)
 55 Na’Ty Rodgers
 26 Jasper Sasser
 27 Jamari Smith
 87 Drake Thomason
 33 Gerald Turner
 73 J.P. Vonashek
 28 Jonathan Walton
 51 Devin Washington
 33 David Williams
 47 Drew Williams

*Note: Camara is not officially in school yet but is on the roster. He is expected to join the team for the fall semester. The only recruit who didn’t qualify is Devante Covington, but Steve Spurrier said on Thursday that they hope to get him in in January.

That is Drake Thomason, formerly of the baseball team. If you missed it over the summer, he decided to give up baseball (Tommy John surgery short-circuited his career) and walk on to the football team as a wide receiver. The last time he played football, he played wideout in the North-South game because they had too many quarterbacks (his high school position), and he caught the game-winning touchdown.

You may also compare the spring and fall rosters and notice some names missing (all walk-ons). These players could still be on the team, but may have to wait until school starts until they can officially be added to the roster. There’s always a group of eight to 10 guys that suit up for the first time the week of the first game.
