Updates on 2018 prospects Dax Hollifield, Bryce Thompson

Four-star linebacker Dax Hollifield came across as pretty matter of fact with his tweets on Monday night.
“I have not named anybody my leader,” Hollifield wrote. “When I announce that someone is, then I’m committed.”
That’s been the consistent message relayed in this space for the last several months, since Hollifield expanded his list from South Carolina, Virginia Tech and North Carolina to include Florida State and Stanford.
Although Hollifield once said that he would play for the Gamecocks, Hokies or Tar Heels, there was never a clear, consistent leader above the rest. The Shelby (N.C.) High School senior, who’s ranked as the No. 5 inside linebacker in the Class of 2018 per 247Sports, always made that clear during his interviews with SEC Country.
While it’s been written that this battle could come down to South Carolina and Virginia Tech, it’s never been framed as a certainty.
The Gamecocks, Seminoles and Tar Heels have already hosted Hollifield on official visits. Most recently, he was in Chapel Hill. Two weekends ago, he visited Columbia.
Up next this weekend is an official visit to Virginia Tech. A Stanford official visit is on the docket for January.
Eyeing an official visit
Three-star athlete Bryce Thompson told Lou Bezjak of The State newspaper that he plans to take an official visit to South Carolina. Thompson also named Georgia State and Marshall as official visit destinations.
Thompson, a senior at Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C., has been to at least two South Carolina games this season, including the win over Arkansas.
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect, who was once committed to Virginia Tech, is ranked as the No. 35 athlete in the Class of 2018
