South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin picked up a commitment on Wednesday from 6-foot-11 center Travon Bunch, a native of Racine, Wis., who attends Score (N.C.) Academy.

The commitment was first reported by AllMetroHoops publisher Horace Neysmith, citing Bunch's coach for the information.

Bunch began this academic year at Georgia Prep (Atlanta) but when the school suspended its first basketball season, he transferred to Score. Prior to Georgia Prep, he attended Mt. Zion (N.C.) Academy and reclassified from the 2014 class to the 2015 class.

At Mt. Zion, he reportedly averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game and held offers from Marquette, Iowa State, Kent State, DePaul, Texas Tech, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Illinois-Chicago.

While at Georgia Prep, he picked up offers from Tennessee, Florida International, Indiana State and Old Dominion. He was regarded as one of the top unsigned prospects in Georgia while there. He played his AAU ball for the Atlanta Celtics.

Bunch is the third commitment for the Gamecocks' 2015 class, joining 6-7 P.J. Dozier and 6-9 Chris Silva.

LOL yes Finally we land a big man!!

Like I said, he's lethal from one foot in.... Does seem to be able to run and looks pretty good in transition. Looks fairly athletic and has a nice frame. Looks like we can build him up. NOT a fat boy or a goofball! All in all, looks like some pretty decent potential.

Honestly, we have not seen any athletes like Silva or Dozier around here in a long time. They are definitely an upgrade.

Our roster looks a lot different next year with these three. Shepard also gives us a guy with an above the rim game on the wing and some nice defensive length. I'd be surprised if Temarcus Blanton can return to form if he can even play at all, but he would also be a great compliment to Thornwell and McKie.

Frank's getting it done, ya'll!

I guess this means goodbye, Reggie Theus, Jr.

Bunch's strengths are his athleticism, rebounding and blocking shots. He does well running the floor but he can also finish around the rim. From what it sounds like, he's going to be around the basket a good bit, both offensively and defensively.

His coaches, Gustavo de Freitas, who had the following to say about Bunch: "He's very athletic. He dunks a long and crashes the boards both on offense and on defense. He is really aggressive and crashes the boards."

Bunch hasn't played on Freitas' team until the last week as he's been playing for another coach. Freitas, who is from Brazil, teaches more of a European style with lots of passes and running plays, so Bunch is still adapting to that style right now. They're actually playing in a tournament beginning tonight in Myrtle Beach.

The lead recruiter for Bunch was assistant coach Perry Clark. Both Martin and Clark are going to see Bunch play on Friday night. Bunch visited for the Mississippi State game earlier this year.

Bunch left Wisconsin for personal reasons and wanted to go somewhere that he could focus on basketball. He said he needs a coach like Martin to help him mature and get to where he wants to be as a basketball player.

Fantastic info, Featheredcock! Thanks!

I guess this means goodbye, Reggie Theus, Jr.
It may also mean goodbye Henry and Sheppard.  Recent note from the blog of Post & Courier's David Caraviello:

Are the Gamecocks careers of Demetrius Henry and Shameik Sheppard over? Last month, men’s head coach Frank Martin suspended the two forwards for at least the remainder of the regular season for unspecified violations of team rules. Martin said he would review the suspensions prior to the SEC tournament, but recent USC recruiting activity makes you wonder if the two will ever return to the bench.
According to Palmetto State recruiting godfather Phil Kornblut, USC has received a commitment from 6-11 Travon Bunch, a Wisconsin native who is attending Score Academy in North Carolina. Bunch would be part of USC’s incoming class for 2015, joining signees P.J. Dozier of Columbia and Chris Silva of New Jersey. Kornblut also reports that USC is among the suitors for guard Jaren Sina, who is transferring from Seton Hall.

Prior to Thursday’s home game against No. 18 Arkansas, USC will recognize its lone senior, guard Tyrone Johnson, as well as walk-on junior Austin Constable. The Gamecocks are in line to have nine scholarship players returning for next season, and the NCAA limit for Division I men’s teams is 13.

Interesting questions he raises....

I see Theus leaving, not either of these guys. I also anticipate that Blanton will not be able to return to SEC form.
