Xavier McKinney
DB Xavier McKinney of Roswell, GA decommitted from Alabama earlier this month and reopened his recruiting to everyone.  And that includes USC and Clemson.  McKinney has been in touch with recruiters from both and is giving each due consideration as he is numerous schools right now.

“Everybody is a team I’m interested in, there’s not just one singled out right now,” McKinney said.  “That was my point of my decommitment.  Everybody I’m interested in.  There’s not any standout schools.”

McKinney said USC defensive coordinator and secondary coach Travaris Robinson was in touch a couple of days ago. Robinson is working to get the Gamecocks back in the mix with McKinney after his initial exposure to the program with the previous staff didn’t go well.

“To be honest with you, the first time I went for a visit, it was a while ago, I didn’t really like it too much,” McKinney said.  “I think I’ll give them another chance because I think when I was up there were in the process of building everything.  I think I’ll give them another chance and knowing they’ve got Coach T-Rob now I definitely will go back up there and visit sometime soon.”

McKinney has visited Clemson before and the Tigers have kept up their interest.

“I am in contact with them a lot,” he said.  “Even when I was committed we were in contact a lot.  I talk to Coach Venables a lot, Coach Elliott, those are the guys I hear from the most.  They talk about how they want me and are trying to get me in on a visit.  They don’t really pressure me too much.  They kind of lay off which is a good thing.  I don’t really like when the recruiters come at me too hard.”

Clemson was the first school to offer McKinney last July.  One of his former teammates, linebacker Tre Lamar, is a freshman at Clemson and a current teammate, DB LeAnthony Williams, is a 2017 Clemson commitment.

This summer McKinney has been to Auburn, Alabama and Georgia and he’s going back to Georgia this weekend.  He has not yet decided on official visits.   He is planning to wait until the Under Armour Game to make his decision. Some of his other offers are Ole Miss, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Florida, Michigan, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

“I don’t really see any school as a bad decision for me,” McKinney said.  “Out of the schools that I have every school can be a good decision.  At this point it’s just visiting that school and seeing where I fit in the most and where I’m most comfortable at around the community and the coaches and the players.

Last season McKinney had around 90 tackles and 10 interceptions as a safety.
