USC will have another candidate for its vacant punter position this spring. Sean Kelly of Winter Garden, FL, who spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic, said Sunday he will enroll at USC this week and join team as a walk-on this spring. Kelly spent the fall out of football at Tallahassee JC. He also considering enrolling at Florida State.
Kelly was a quarterback and punter in high school and walked-on at Florida Atlantic where he primarily was a punter. He averaged nearly 43 yards per punt in 2013.
Kelly made two unofficial visits to USC this season, for the Georgia and Furman games, and was recruited by special teams coach Joe Robinson.
Shrine Bowl DB Amir Trapp (5-9 150) of Daniel accepted a grayshirt from Clemson and will join the program next January. Trapp is the son of former Clemson and NFl star James Trapp who currently works for the university.
“I felt like it would be a good opportunity to have something to look forward to in 2015,” Trapp said. “I gathered as many options as I could throughout the season and then I weighed all of my options and made the decision that was best for me.”
Like his dad, Trapp has excellent speed and displayed his cover skills during Shrine Bowl practice. He had 11 career interceptions and averaged over 22 yards per punt return at Daniel.
Another former Daniel star, ATH Jae’lon Oglesby, will not continue his career at Clemson as he had planned. Oglesby signed with the Tigers in 2014 but did not qualify and attended Fork Union Prep, VA this season.
He remained committed to Clemson until the Tigers made the decision not to bring him in. Oglesby’s father would not provide specifics Sunday afternoon but said his son hopes have more information about his future plays Monday.
