4 star RB CJ Freeman (5-11 190) of Greensboro, NC had a recent conversation with former USC star running back Marcus Lattimore and that really got him thinking seriously about joining the Gamecocks. Freeman took the next step on Saturday during the Gamecocks’ junior day by committing to USC in the hopes of becoming that next great USC running back.
If his high school career thus far is any example, Freeman has the chance to be an outstanding college running back. The last two seasons he has rushed for 3800 yards and 48 touchdowns in leading his team to state championships under the direction of former Hartsville and Lancaster coach Johnny Roscoe.
Freeman came to USC’s first junior day in January and always had the Gamecocks high up on his list. He also strongly considered Virginia Tech and had offers as well from West Virginia, Wake Forest and Washington State.
“I like everything really,” Freeman said. “The school, the coaches, the team and how there on the come up. I like the spread offense and the fact that they said they would use me in different ways, too. Either wildcat or the return game.”
Freeman is also excited about the chance to play under Steve Spurrier and to compete in the SEC.
“I just hope he doesn’t retire while I’m there,” Freeman jokingly said. “And the SEC is the best conference in the NCAA, so it’s exciting.”
Freeman is considered an all purpose back who can also play receiver. He is the Gamecocks’ first running back commitment for the 2016 class.
