3 star WR Denzel Johnson 6'2" 195lbs of AC Flora was one of the stars of the Touchstone Energy Bowl North-South Game Saturday in Myrtle Beach. Johnson caught 3 passes for 58 yards including a 47 yard touchdown pass from Tommy Sanders. He was named the offensive MVP for the North.
Johnson displayed the talent that has drawn an offer from Clemson and the interest of USC. He was in touch with both programs last week while in Myrtle Beach.
“I talked to coach Swinney about two days ago and he wants me to go on an official visit January 17th,” Johnson said on Thursday. “And I talked to Steve Spurrier Jr. and he wants me to go on an official visit, too.” Johnson has taken an official visit to Towson State and talked with his recruiter from there last week as well.
Clemson and USC have told Johnson he could play receiver or defensive back and his permanent position would be determined later. Clemson has made an official offer while the Gamecocks are talking grayshirt with him right now.
“I think South Carolina wants to grayshirt me, I’m not sure yet,” Johnson said. “And Clemson had two wide receivers to transfer, I think, and he told me that should open up a spot for me.”
Johnson also has an official visit set with Georgia Southern for January 23rd. He said he doesn’t have a favorite and won’t make a decision until Signing Day.
