4 star QB Lorenzo Nunez (6-2 190) of Kennesaw, GA announced Thursday night a commitment to USC. Nunez narrowed his focus to the Gamecocks, NC State and Ohio State. He also had Tennessee and Miami on his short list. Nunez visited USC for the spring game last month and saw some things then that greatly interested him.

"First off, they've been 11-2, the past few years," Nunez said. "Coach Spurrier and Coach Mangus and good coaches. Coach Spurrier was a Heisman trophy winner. He's a good teacher and I think I can learn a lot from him. It's great weather and it's close to home and still away from my house. I have a great relationship with Coach Spurrier and Coach Mangus."

"Coach Mangus came to my school after they offered me and I went there three or four times to see him and Coach Spurrier and the town," Nunez said. "I liked it. I went there two other times after I visited for the spring game."

He says he started to feel like South Carolina was definitely the place for him about two weeks ago.

Nunez, who is ranked the No. 19 overall prospect in Georgia, said at the time that he liked his fit in the Gamecocks' offense.

"Since (Connor) Shaw just came out, Coach Mangus said I play like him," Nunez said. "He says he plays with his feet, but he wants to throw the ball first and that's exactly what I do at the high school level, and that's what he likes about my game. You can't be stationary in the pocket, because now days defensive ends and linebackers run 4.6s and 4.5s and stuff like that."

"I'm very excited, actually, to have this process over and to pick a school," Nunez said. "Now I can get to my high school team and just finish the season off good and start recruiting other players. "I'm probably going to get on Twitter and just check out the wide receivers and playmakers that are interested in South Carolina and follow me and know what I can do on the field, so I can work on them for South Carolina and make something happen."

“I got a good feel for what it would be like,” he said after that visit. “The offense they run fits me well.” Last season Nunez passed for 1148 yards and 5 touchdowns and he rushed for 786 yards and 7 scores. “I can extend a play and throw the ball,” he said. “My first option is to throw but I can move in the pocket.” Nunez is the 8th commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2015 class.
