Expect a tough game.  Coastal will give it everything they have.   True road game.  If we can make shots, we should win.   But we could lose.    Probably as big a test as Georgetown will be on Sunday.   Maybe bigger since we are not familiar with the venue.

Yes, I'm with you on the difficulty of this game.  It will be the first game since WKY where our bigs may have their hands full.  Against WKy, Jairus Hamilton and Jaylen Butz gave our guys a bit of a challenge (Leveque got in foul trouble, and neither Josh Gray nor Ta'Quan Woodley were much of an answer.  Thank heavens for Brandon Martin that time around).  I'm hoping that the number of games under the belt will help with the physical play for all three (Leveque, Gray, and Woodley), but expect a fight from Assam Mostafa around the rim (and attacking the rim offensively, for that matter).  Rudi Williams, their guard, is great with the ball but he can shoot quite well too (he's at a near 50% clip from behind the arc, IS at exactly 50% shooting overall, and has more FT attempts/makes than any one else on the team).

Coastal has the tools to make this a tough win for the 'Cocks.  AND they've got the genius of Cliff Ellis behind their offensive/defensive play.  Dude has been at it as a coach since 1975.  I remember him well from his time at Clemson and Auburn.  Lots of NCAA appearances, and a few Sweet 16s to his name.  NEVER, and I mean NEVER underestimate a Cliff Ellis coached team.

After watching us play a few games, it is my opinion that our bigs get in too much of a hurry when they get the ball.  Like the ball is a hot potato and they have to get rid of it quickly.   That's why they are missing so many shots, imo.   They need to slow down when they get the ball.    I would love to see Minot get some minutes tonight.  I like him and I'm afraid he'll transfer if he doesn't get to  play much.

Jermaine Couisnard won’t play tonight in Gamecocks road trip to Coastal

South Carolina junior Jermaine Couisnard won’t tonight against Coastal Carolina with a groin injury, CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein posted to social media Wednesday evening. Couisnard is averaging 13.5 points per game. He scored 13 in Sunday’s win over Rider but appeared to be in some discomfort during the game.

Yup… going according to script so far.  Rudy Williams hitting his shots and Mostafa playing hard at the rim.  Good guys down 29-18 with 7:08 to go.

We have a Minotte sighting!!

Coastal Carolina leads 36-35 at the halftime break. The Gamecocks went on a big run towards the end of the half to tie the game 35-35, then a AJ WIlson foul at the final seconds gave Coastal free throws, and they make 1 of them to retake the slim lead.....

I think he did fine.  Our guys need to be taught to hold their hands up on defense.   If Minott had his hands up he would have gotten that rebound that got knocked out of bounds..

Typical fugly game just like the last time we played them in 2018.  Cliff Ellis ain't no slouch.

Frank said earlier in the week they have been battling the flu bug.  Maybe that explains some of the poor defense tonight.

The biggest positive is we battled back from a double-digit deficit to just one point behind at the half.

Not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Not surprised much by the first half.  Coastal shot the ball better than I hoped they would.  But our defense got better the last few minutes of the half.  Gotta cut off the drivers and guard well.

I got the feeling from Frank's comments after the 2018 game at the CLA that he's kinda shied away from playing Cliff's team over the years.

Pretty easy to see why tonight.  LOL

Not looking good.  Mustafa is MUCH better than ANY of our bigs.     We are playing poorly and Coastal is going to beat us, it looks like.

Lot of points Gamecocks lost by. Georgetown next up and in Columbia.

While the most important thing is how many non-conference games we win, this is certainly a big disappointment.   I believe Coastal has better players and better coaching than does USC.   I was surprised by how good  Coastal's players are.   I'm impressed.  USC has some real problems.  They don't have any post players that are really good.  Mustafa was a lot better than any big USC has.   Our post players can't score, which means that we have to get our scoring from our perimeter guys and when they aren't making shots, like they weren't tonight, it makes it very hard to win.   Not sure what the answer is because none of our bigs is very good on the offensive end and tonight they got beat up on the boards too.    To find offense, we might  have to go small.   I do think Frank needs to spend lots more time practicing against zone defenses.   We're going to keep seeing those unless we find a way to score against them.   Overall, very disappointed in how we played.

Poor defense.  No penetration in the paint on offense.  The other team plays defense and hits its shots.

Only two of our guys in double figures scoring.  We usually need at least one more in double figures and a little help from a couple of others.

Textbook Frank Martin loss.

Hit the reset button and get ready for Georgetown.
