In case you ever wondered where Georgetown's team name came from:

What is a Hoya?

Many years ago, when all Georgetown students were required to study Greek and Latin, the University's teams were nicknamed "The Stonewalls." It is suggested that a student, using Greek and Latin terms, started the cheer "Hoya Saxa!", which translates into "What Rocks!" The name proved popular and the term "Hoyas" was eventually adopted for all Georgetown teams.

Mascot

This is Jack the Bulldog. Jack is our mascot. Georgetown has had a number of mascots in its more than 200-year existence. Among the earliest mascots was a terrier named Stubby, whose name is largely unfamiliar today but was perhaps the most famous dog of his generation. The dog served 18 months on the front with his regiment in World War I, saving his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, locating wounded soldiers, and even catching a German spy by the seat of his pants. Such exploits made the front page of newspapers back home, and after Stubby's last battle at Chateau-Thierry, France, he was outfitted with a blanket with the medals and honors awarded him for bravery, with flags of all the Allied Nations of the war.

I sure would like to win this game.  I'm always nervous about men's basketball games because I'm not sure how we will play.  The Coastal game did nothing to ease my doubts.  Hoping for a good game from Frank's guys.

We won the first half.  I think that is the best half this season from our bigs.   Still need to get better at everything, but I thought the bigs had their best half so far.   Perimeter guys need to make some jump shots in the second half.

Both defenses playing very physical and the refs are letting them play. I thought both teams could/should have been called for 6 or 7 more fouls.

Nice win.  Far from perfect, but that's ok.  Best game of the season for our bigs.   Wright had his best game as PG.    Jacoby is our PG at the moment.     We have lots of depth.   Very encouraging game to follow the game with Coastal.

Went to the game.  We got the win.  Once again I take full credit for our decisive win.

Pizza in the first half.  Veggie egg roll in the second.  My winning formula until some overhyped, fuzz nuts recruit outplays me.  LOL

My only nit is we need Erik Stevenson's points, not his stupid early fouls that put him on the bench more than it should.  Kotsar 2.0.

Other than that, it was a very enjoyable game from start to finish.

20 assists to only 10 turnovers. 43 rebounds, even though Georgetown out-rebounded us with 47, was still a good team effort. But these games versus Coastal and then Georgetown is what ultimately frustrates the fanbase. The team playing so well in one game, and then so lackluster in the next, with no idea whatsoever what product will show up on the floor.

We have two tough games against FSU and Clemson book-ending a game against D-II Allen, for our next 3 games. Doubt we do better than 1-2 in those, but who the hell knows......

Wins against D2 teams are still thrown out by the NCAAT selection committee.

Allen, as well as any other D2 team in this state, should only be an exhibition game team and never on our regular season schedule.

We have needed every win we could get since Final Four run and yet Frank still puts D2 teams on the regular schedule year after year.

If you go to the games, it has been quite fun to watch Wildens play.

He will be better for us than Chris Silva this season if he stays with it.

Please try to attend all the games.  And call Coach Martin and tell him that practice isn't needed because all he needs to do is make sure you're at all the games.

I love it when the team scores in the paint.   We did that a lot yesterday.

They're a fun team to watch when they are on their game.

Erik tends not to take shots in the second half if he gets if he gets into early foul trouble and has to sit in the first half.  He hit two 3-pointers early in the first and that was it.

I like the fact that we scored despite Erik being on the bench.  We got 32 points off the freakin' bench.  Most everyone that played also scored and that's good for our depth.

It is about relationships, those small school coaches need the pay check for their schools and athletic budget while Frank needs the eyes looking for recruits in our back yard or even a great transfer... He is also a loyal and caring coach, he came up from high school and will always have respect for the little man without regard for what anyone thinks!
