USC 51-22 Halftime

AJ Wilson left with a potential knee injury early in the game and didn't return to the sideline before halftime.

I enjoyed watching the game.  I think we needed a game like this to have some fun and get all the guys a chance to play.   Everyone scored.    We got to see some guys play who we have not seen much of thus far.   I like that.

I hope we can play a good game at Clemson on Saturday.     Looking forward to that game.  Hope Couisnard is back and can help us.

I both love and hate these type of games. I love the positive community impact for Columbia and getting to see everyone eligible get to play. I hate these games because I hate to see a team just completely overmatched get killed. I hope that the Allen players can use this game to get better and get some wins later on this season.

IIRC this game doesn't even count toward our record come tournament time.  If that's so we have no business playing it.  None.

They got beat 79-43 by Miles in Birmingham on Monday and then had to turn around and play us on no rest last night; that undoubtedly contributed to the blow-out.

Exactly.   Frank said in his radio PG interview last night that AJ Wilson was going to have an MRI today to tell them how bad his knee injury is.

You don't want to lose a player to injury in any game, but at least let it be in a D1 game.  We definitely need AJ for the Clemson game and beyond this season.

It counts in the record, but isn't taken into account with NET/RPI type rankings. Also, the tournament committee won't take this game into account for seeding or if we're on the bubble.

And I agree, we shouldn't be playing these games during the regular season. If we wanted to play it, it should have been the second exhibition in place of the "secret scrimmage" that we do most every year.

@kingofnerf, injuries come outside of D1 and D2 games.  We've had guys blow out knees and other joints permanently (and never play for us again) while playing neighborhood football or playing pickup basketball in offseason.  To say that playing Allen is a bad idea simply because someone was injured is a logical fallacy, and a shift such that one can prove a point.

Personally, I'm glad that we play Allen.  And I'm glad that we do it during the mid-non conference schedule.  It gives all of the guys a chance to get on the court, and in this case gives all of the guys on the team (including Mike Green and Ford Cooper) a chance to score in a real game, not in simulated team practices.

Some would argue that these games should be played ONLY in exhibition form.  I, however, am a strong proponent of adding them mid-non conference.  It's goodwill toward other teams, it is good revenue because you're bringing local fans of a different team to the CLA, and it is (as mentioned above) a chance to get guys on the court who otherwise may not get to show what they can do.

As an example... Mike Green.  Everyone who followed his HS career and signing with the 'Cocks knows the kid can shoot the daylights out of the ball.  But he's a step slow on defense and doesn't move that well on offense either.  Would you have seen him turn into the 3rd leading scorer (technically 2nd, since the first two were tied) in a game this season if not for playing a D2 school?  The answer is a big huge... Nope.

So, while like you, I never want to see us lose a player to injury, I think the benefits for these kind of games always are larger than the negatives (the chances of injury are actually very low, and we somehow beat the odds vs. Allen for sustaining an injury).

Frank said last night the bad part of games like this is starters "take the game off" and get selfish on the court.  We didn't see that last night, but that's been the Achilles heel of Frank's teams here over the years.  We have both watched this play out over the years mainly against lesser D1 teams.

I have always thought Frank should take the reverse psychology route and schedule tougher opponents to take away the cupcake games and force the selfish guys to adhere to the system.  That's obviously not a problem this year with the new players, but Dawn has gone the route of playing a tougher schedule to keep players focused and we all have seen that pay off in the postseason during that time.

Frank may end up being one of the coaches that benefits from the portal in that he can get rid of selfish players and bring better ones in sooner.  Not a problem this year, but it has been in the past.

You can either get guys like Mike Green more PT in games like this against D2 teams or you can coach a team that consistently builds and maintains a lead against D1 teams and do it that way, which I think is the best way to do it if you can pull it off.
