South Carolina had difficult losses at LSU and Florida the last two weeks and now will try to regroup for a matchup with Tennessee on Saturday.
The key for USC will be to come out ready to play and not be “flat” for a noon game after back-to-back defeats.
Carolina’s chance for an SEC title is all but gone, and it’ll be interesting to see how the team reacts Saturday. The players and coaches talked before the season and throughout the year about the SEC East championship being one of the biggest goals of the season and with that no longer a possibility, USC must turn its attention to other goals.
If the Gamecocks come out flat, a Tennessee team that some say is playing for its coaches’ job will likely take advantage.
The Volunteers are led by quarterback Tyler Bray, who has thrown for over 1900 yards and 16 touchdowns already this season. He’s averaging over 270 yards passing per game.
Tennessee is 0-4 in the SEC but has faced one of the toughest schedules in the country with losses to Florida, at Georgia, at Mississippi St. and against Alabama.
My guess is the Gamecocks come out ready to play. Carolina has plenty of upperclassmen leaders, including D.J. Swearinger, Shaq Wilson, Marcus Lattimore and Justice Cunningham, who won’t let this season go to waste.
While some of the big goals for the season are gone, beating Tennessee for a fourth straight time would certainly be nice for Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks.
