USC quarterback target Jay Urich sets decision date
May 23, 2016
South Carolina quarterback target Jay Urich of Wren High School will hold a commitment ceremony Friday at 3:30 p.m. at his school, he confirmed to The State Monday morning.
Urich is the Gamecocks’ top quarterback target for the 2017 class and also holds offers from Appalachian State, Southern Miss, Georgia Southern and others. He has also received interest from the likes of Duke, Tennessee, North Carolina and Texas.
Urich is ranked as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite rankings and is rated as the No. 28 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class.
Urich has not named any favorites but told The State earlier this month that he has a strong relationship with Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, and Urich believes he would be a good fit in USC’s offense.
“They like my dual-threat ability. I’m a guy that can run, can come in and just learn on the go. I’m a leader, all of those qualities,” Urich said. “I feel like I’m a good fit. All of the stuff we do here is basically what they do there with the RPOs, run-pass options. (Roper) likes that I transition good from here at Wren to South Carolina.
