USC target headed elsewhere

DE Ron Johnson Jr. of Camden, NJ, a major USC target, committed Thursday to Michigan while on an unofficial visit with the Wolverines. Johnson attended USC’s Showcase camp earlier this month and spoke highly of the Gamecocks at that time saying they were at the top of his list along with Michigan. Johnson had planned to name a top five in July and carry the recruiting process on into the fall, but that was before today’s commitment which could also impact his teammate and USC target WR Brad Hawkins Jr. who also has USC and Michigan at the top of his list. It is still possible Johnson will take other official visits including one to USC. He was joined on the visit by another USC target TE Naseir Upshur of Philadelphia.

And we wonder why we have screwed the pooch. Remember Paris Palmer from last year where Elliott ended up just not ever even contacting him for months? He went to Penn state after James Franklin busted his ass to form a relationship. Thought he might be our starting LT this year. With this staff we will always recruit passively. We are in the SEC but put effort into it as if we were in the Sunbelt. Sick of being outworked. We should NOT be in some rebuilding mode instead we got lazy on the recruiting trail. Don't know what else can be said..just venting. It feels like our time passed us by and it did not have to be that way.
