USC receivers coach and offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon scouted WR John Metchie 6'0" 195lbs of Hagerstown, MD this spring and offered him. The two have been expanding their relationship ever since with McClendon’s goal to get Metchie down for an official visit. It’s something he’s considering.
“I think I have a good relationship with them especially how the offensive coordinator is the wide receivers coach, and that’s definitely a place that I’d like to visit,” Metchie said. “They seem to be pushing pretty hard and I’m keeping a good relationship with them. They’ve been doing a a real god job of contacting me.”
Metchie had 20 catches last season for 616 yards and 11 touchdowns. He said McClendon likes him for his big play ability.
“He really likes the way I play receiver, my explosiveness, strength, size and speed,” Metchie said. “He thinks I have the potential to play early if I come in and work, which he likes a lot.”
Metchie said right now Alabama and Penn State stand out the most with him and he as set an official visit to Penn State June 8th and one to Alabama June 15th. He’s not sure on his other officials right now but “I’m looking at South Carolina actually.”
The other schools on his short list are Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska and Tennessee.
Metchie is transferring to the Peddie School in New Jersey for his senior season. He is considering signing and graduating early but that is not definite at this point.
