USC defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said following Thursday’s practice Missouri will post the strongest challenge yet to his defense primarily because of the pace and speed the Tigers play the game.
Mizzou runs the spread and USC faced that style of offense two weeks ago against East Carolina. The Gamecock defense was excellent that night limiting the Pirates to ten points. But Ward points out the version of the spread his defense will see this Saturday afternoon will be at a totally different level.
“The only similarities in both teams is they’re spread teams,” said Ward. “Missouri is going to be way faster than any team we’ve ever played. They’re going to be snapping it really, really quick. East Carolina was fast, but the pace wasn’t really fast. We’ve had to get guys to understand all week that they’re going to get lined up, and they’re going to come, and they’re going to run play after play after play.”
