Ward will direct USC defense from field

First year USC defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward is known for his youthful enthusiasm on the sideline during games. He can often be seen chest bumping his players and racing up and down the sideline.
Those things, of course, could not be done from the press box while calling out the defense.
Ward said Saturday that won’t be a problem. “I’ll be on the sideline,” he said after the Gamecocks’ second scrimmage of the spring. “The bowl game was different. We were a coach short and I felt I needed to be up there so I could see it. But I’ll be definitely on the field. ”
Ward said new secondary coach Grady Brown will be up in the box to assist the defensive coaches on the field with the calls.
