Warren Ericson recaps visit, new South Carolina offer outOct. 07, 2016

Ericson talks to Muschamp and ElliottWarren Ericson continues to be a priority target for South Carolina’s 2018 class. The 3-star offensive lineman from North Gwinnett (Ga.) High School spoke with Muschamp and offensive line coach Shawn Elliott before last Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.

“They seemed to be very interested in me. It seems like every time I go up there I get a chance to meet with both of them,” Ericson said. “I got to go on the field. That was a good time. Then, it was a good game to watch.

“They fought the whole game, which is a character trait that you can obviously tell the coaches have instilled in them.”

That means a lot to prospective student-athletes.

“I want a coach to be a main role model for me, someone that’s going to make me become a better person and learn to fight … that’s what I’m looking for,” Ericson said, “Because after college I need the experience they have to make it further in life.”

The No. 27 ranked offensive guard in the country said those conversations with Muschamp and Elliott were “short and sweet.”

“They were focused on winning that game, but basically they told me how excited they are about me and how I’m a top priority for them,”

Ericson said. “They were very interested in how my season was going, because both of them know my head coach, coach Bob Sphire. They’ve known him for over 20 years, good friends and they want to support him in every way.”

Earlier this season, Ericson visited Georgia for a game. He said he’s planning to visit Florida and will try to make it to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt this fall.

All of the above schools have offered the 6-foot-4, 290-pound prospect.

“I’m all ears when a coach or a college contacts me, because they may not be the school that’s No. 1 right now,” Ericson said. “But I want the coach that’s going to really make me a better player and a better person, so any coach that I can really come in contact that can do that with me, I’m all ears.”

New South Carolina offer outSEC Country first introduced its readers to Syheam McQueen last month after reporting his plans to visit for the ECU game. On Wednesday, the Gamecocks made an offer.

McQueen is a running back from Scotland County High School in Laurinberg, N.C. His teammate, 5-star running back Zamir White, also visited South Carolina for the ECU game.

Mukuamu adds another offerBerkeley (S.C.) High School junior safety Israel Mukuamu picked up an offer from Wake Forest while he was on campus Thursday.

South Carolina and Coastal Carolina have also offered the No. 35 safety in the class of 2018.
