Warren McClendon makes his return, Muschamp Camp list taking shape

June 13, 2017

Back to South Carolina

Warren McClendon made his much-anticipated return to South Carolina on Saturday for the OL/DL Camp.

Because he hadn’t been back on campus since the fall, Saturday afforded the 2019 offensive tackle an opportunity to meet — and work with — first-year offensive line coach Eric Wolford.

“He’s a good coach,” McClendon said. “He’s going to push you. That’s one thing. He’s going to push you.”

McClendon added, “He’s kind of like my old offensive line coach. They’re both pretty — they get amped up.”

Muschamp left McClendon with a simple message:

“He’s just telling me I need to get up on another visit,” McClendon said.

Ranked by 247Sports as the No. 27 offensive tackle in the Class of 2019, McClendon plans to return to South Carolina at the end of the summer, right before the start of his junior season at Brunswick (Ga.) High School.

Saturday was his first camp stop of the summer.

“We’re still trying to figure it out, where all I’m going to be going to camps and visits (this summer),” McClendon said.

Muschamp Camp guests

Names of guests for the next round of Muschamp Camp this week are still trickling in, but there are already a handful of notable confirmations.

2018 4-star wide receiver Josh Vann (Tucker, Ga.) confirmed with SEC Country on Monday afternoon that he’s planning to make his second visit to South Carolina at the end of the week. A date hasn’t been finalized, but he’s shooting for an appearance at some point between Thursday and Saturday.

Davis Beville, a 2019 quarterback from Greenville (S.C.) High School, will be back on Thursday, six days after winning the Gamecocks’ first 7-on-7 tournament of the summer. Beville, who has an offer from Campbell, is planning to workout with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper.

Cornerback Jalen Huff, the cousin of South Carolina freshman defensive back Jamyest Williams, will be back on campus for a visit and camp session. Huff, a 2020 prospect from Athens (Ga.) Academy, is aiming to participate in camp on Friday or Saturday.

Saturday, the final Muschamp Camp session of the month, is shaping up to be a busy one.

Curtis Fann Jr., a 2019 defensive end with a Gamecock offer, will visit from Twin City, Ga. At least two in-state 2019 prospects are also slated to attend: tight end/wide receiver KeShawn Toney (Williston-Elko) and running back Jonathan Alexander (Dorman).

Crystal ball evaluations

With Master Teague III now committed to Ohio State, the Zamir White to Georgia picks have flooded the 247Sports crystal ball. But among the other predictions is a notable selection for a prospect who’s actually relevant to South Carolina.

Alabama: 4-star CB Jaycee Horn: An outlier among a batch that’s full of South Carolina selections. The Tide were once touted as his leader before the Gamecocks took over. Are things back to even? Maybe for now. A trip to Tennessee looms this weekend.
