#1/1 SOUTH CAROLINA (27-1) AT. FLORIDA (15-12)
6 P.M.  |  GAINESVILLE, FLA.  |  EXACTECH ARENA (10,151)

ABOUT THIS GAME

  • The Gamecocks are looking for their 12th-straight win over Florida, which would even the series as the Gators hold a 20-19 advantage entering the game.
  • A win tonight would stretch the Gamecocks' win streak to 22, which would tie to the 2015-16 team for the longest in program history.
  • Mikiah Herbert Harrigan needs one block to become just the third Gamecock all-time to record 200 career blocks.
  • Tyasha Harris is seven assists away from joining the SEC's all-time top 10 in career assists.

GAMECOCK NOTABLES

  • South Carolina's offense has been explosive, ranking eighth in the country at 81.9 points per game,  and versatile with eight Gamecocks leading or tying for the team lead in scoring at least once this season. While the foundation is built on points in the paint, where South Carolina out-scores opponents 41.4 to 24.6 points per game, the Gamecocks can win from outside shooting as well as they are 17-0 when hitting at least five 3s in a game and 10-1 when scoring fewer than five.
  • The Gamecock defense has been reliably stalwart throughout the season. Just seven games have seen an opponent score 60 or more points, and only two teams have scored more points than their season average entering the game.
  • Averaging a double-double vs. the SEC and ranked teams, Aliyah Boston is having one of the best freshman seasons in program history as she is ahead of the pace marked by the program's last two SEC Freshman of the Year winners – Alaina Coates (2014) and A'ja Wilson (2015). Boston's six double-doubles in SEC games and 11 on the season are both program freshman records. Her 12.9 points per game are just below Wilson's 13.1. Her rebounding average (9.1), blocks per game (2.8) and field goal percentage (.616) are all better than Coates and Wilson in their freshman seasons.
  • Junior guard LeLe Grissett has used her experience to be a spark off the bench in the waning weeks of the regular season. Over the last four games, she has poured in 9.8 points on 77.3 percent shooting (17-of-22) and seven of her 12 rebounds came on the offensive end.
  • Senior Mikiah Herbert Harrigan has been locked in on rebounding in February, averaging 6.8 rebounds per game this month, including four games against ranked opponents, after closing January with a 5.3 rebound average.
BY THE NUMBERS
Zia Cooke's four 20-point games against SEC opponents are more than any other Gamecock freshman all-time.

10 South Carolina has 10 wins against nationally ranked opponents this season, more than any other team in the country.

+11.8 The Gamecocks have out-scored their opponents in the first quarter by an average of 11.8 points this season (12.6 points in SEC games).

12 South Carolina's guards have matched or out-scored its forwards in the paint 12 times this season.

23.6 In her 20th season as a head coach, Dawn Staley averages 23.6 wins per season. That average rises to 25.0 in her 12 seasons at South Carolina.

31.8 South Carolina's bench has accounted for 31.8 percent of its total offense vs. SEC teams – 26.6 points per game. Four Gamecocks average at least 5.0 off the bench.

Ladies, being undefeated in the SEC is closely becoming a reality.  Do not take it for granted & respect your opponent always.  Florida may not be an elite team, but anyone in WBB is capable of having an outstanding night therefore, play locked in, aggressively, & full out Gamecock basketball.  This is a game to improve 3 point shooting & TOs, but be focused one game at a time.  GO COCKS!

Very strong first half effort by the Gamecocks, as they take a 54-30 lead into the halftime break. Kiki Herbert-Harrigan leads the way with 15 1st-half pts, but Aliyah Boston also has 11 pts, and Ty Harris has 10. The team certainly did not take this game off, or look past it. The 54 1st half points are the 2nd-most scored in a SEC game half by the Gamecocks, after the 55 pts they scored against Vanderbilt in the 2nd half of our 1st game against them (93-57 win). The 3rd most was the 52 1st-half pts we scored against Vandy in the 2nd game (95-44 win)....

Gamecocks beat Florida 100-67 to improve to 28-1, and 15-0 on the season. Reserve Olivia Thompson hit her 2nd 3-pt of the game in as many attempts, to get USC to the century mark for the game. Kiki Herbert-Harrigan led the Gamecocks with 18 pts and 2 blocks, reaching 200 career blocked shots for her career and coming just the 3rd Gamecock to achieve the accomplishment, joining her former teammates A'ja Wilson and Alaina Coates.

Ty Harris scored 16 pts, 8 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Aliyah Boston scored 11 pts and pulled down 9 rebounds, Zia Cooke also scored 11 pts, and reserve Lele Grissett added 10 pts along with 3 steals. Reserves Laeticia Amihere added 8 pts, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks, and Victaria Saxton 8 pts, 8 boards, a block and a steal. Destanni Henderson contributed 6 pts and 6 assists, and Thompson added her 6 pts off of two 3-pt attempts.

Overall the team shot 59% from the field, 58% from the 3-pt. arc, and 9-10 at the free throw line for a very strong offensive showing......

Is there such a thing as resting some starters for the game over the weekend? Or not because there is enough time off between this weekend's last game and our first  SEC tourney game?

They don't seem to generate good crowds for their sports outside of football. They don't have large crowds for both their basketball or their baseball sports.....
Florida is usually in the top 20 in the country in baseball attendance and top 30 in mens basketball attendance, not sure that is an accurate statement.

No need to rest at all - as the regular season SEC champs, we get the double-bye for the SEC tournament, so while lower seeded teams start the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, we'll play our first game on Friday March 6th. So that's a good rest period - longer than the typical game during the week after a Sunday game, which for WBB is usually on Wednesday, but not too long that our team will get rusty.

The only bad thing is we'd play the winner of the game between the #8 and #9 seeds, which right now would be between UGA and Alabama. Alabama has been playing pretty good basketball lately - I'd rather we played someone else, but our team is rolling right now and shouldn't have any problems.

But with Coach Staley and the staff's rotation policy they've used all season long, even the starters won't play heavy minutes this Sunday, unless something unexpected happens. They always give the first reserves - Henderson, Saxton, Grissett, Amihere - upwards of 20 minutes of play each game....

Dawn just lets the bench conduct a track meet to tire the other team out and then she puts the starters back in to drop the hammer.  Then back to the bench.

She's trying to also improve our transition offense when she does that, too.  We are #1, but we also miss too many buckets in transition and she's trying to change that.

I doubt anything will change for TAMU and the SECT unless an opponent gets reasonably close to beating us.
