Greenville SC - The #1-ranked South Carolina Women Basketball Team advanced to the semifinal round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a resounding 89-56 victory over #9 Seed Georgia on Friday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC. The #1 Seeded Gamecocks will now face #5 Seed Arkansas in the first game played on Saturday at 5:00 PM. The 25th-ranked Razorbacks survived a tough 67-66 win over #5 Seed Texas A&M by hitting two free throws with 8 seconds remaining in the game, and then blocking the Aggies' final shot attempt.

In South Carolina's quarterfinal win, the Gamecocks (30-1) reached the 30-win mark for fourth time in the past six seasons and beat the ninth-seeded Bulldogs (17-14) for the 12th straight game.

Kiki Herbert Harrigan and Ty Harris, the last players left from the 2017 national champions, led the way.

The senior duo combined for six of the Gamecocks' first 10 points and kept pushing the tempo after the team had opened a double-digit lead. Harris hit a 3-pointer to cap a 13-3 run that made it 45-28.

MATCH-UP HISTORY (ARKANSAS)

South Carolina is 20-18 all-time against Arkansas, having swept the Razorbacks in their two regular-season match-ups this season to break the all-time tie. They are 12-4 versus the Razorbacks in the Dawn Staley era. In the SEC Tournament the Gamecocks are 1-2 versus the Razorbacks, including their last meeting in Greenville, SC last season, when the then #10 Seed Arkansas upset the #2 Seed Gamecocks 95-89 in the quarterfinals behind 31 points from Chelsea Dungee and 18 points from Alexis Tolefree. Kiki Herbert-Harrigan led the Gamecocks with 27 pts and Ty Harris added 24 pts. The loss ended a 12-game SEC Tournament win streak for South Carolina that included 4 straight tournament titles.

Ladies, focus solely on this game & need to respect AK’s ability to put up 3’s in a hurry.  Today’s game is about the big D, lots of rebounds, & definitely taking care of the ball better than yesterday.  Queen Brea has to shut down Dungee while Kiki & a combo of others need to neutralize Tollfree.  Banking today on another superb bench performance as well.  You got this; GO COCKS!

Both teams started slowly in shooting to start the game, but one of them seems to have settled down - the Gamecocks!! They lead 18-8 after the 1st Quarter ends. Arkansas is rebounding with the Gamecocks thus far - in the first 2 games this season, South Carolina dominated on the boards. But the Razorbacks shot only 2-15 for the first period. Hope that continues at least for them.....

A much more torrid offensive pace for the 2nd Quarter for both teams, but the Gamecocks are thriving on the insane pace of the game. They extend their lead to 48-29 into the halftime recess. Destanni Henderson explodes with 3 3-pt. shot makes in the 1nst half, and leads the team with 13 pts in 12 minutes. Herbert-Harrigan has 11 pts and 5 rebounds and Harris has 8 pts and 5 assists, as the Gamecocks combine for 7-15 from the 3-pt. line, compared to Arkansas being 5-10 from the line, but shooting 11-33 (33%) from the field overall.

Aliyah Boston has been swarmed by the Razorbacks whenever she gets the ball, and she's only scored 2 pts on 1-4 shooting, but she's still factoring in the game with 6 rebounds. Cooke and Beal each scored 7 pts in the 1st half....

Gamecocks lead 52-44 midway through the 3rd qtr. Arkansas is running hard now, and the Gamecocks forgot what they were doing in the 1st half. Boston now has 3 fouls and is out of the game, but she wasn't scoring in the 1st half either.....

Gamecocks held a 19-point lead at the half, but Arkansas started the 3rd quarter on fire, and Boston picked up her 3rd foul - no one else on the USC team has 2 fouls. So Boston sat out, and the Razorbacks jumped on the Gamecocks 19-7 in the 3rd qtr., turning that 19-pt. lead into just a 7-pt. lead. The Gamecocks were confused and discombobulated.

Then Coach Staley brought Boston back into the game, with 3 fouls and around 3 minutes left in the qtr. Boston starts out by hitting a 3-ptr herself!! It was the 2nd three for the season for her. The Gamecocks then went on a 12-0 run, and reclaimed that 19-pt lead. The close out the 3rd quarter leading 67-48. Challenge met!!

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeat the Arkansas Razorbacks 90-64 in the SEC Tournament semifinal, and advance to the championship game for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons. The #1-ranked Gamecocks (31-1, 16-0) had five players in double-digits, led by reserve Destanni Henderson's 21 points on 8-14 shooting, including 4-9 from behind the 3-pt. line. Henderson also had 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Zia Cooke scored 14 pts as well as 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Aliyah Boston was hounded and double and triple-teamed all game long, and only scored 2 pts in the 1st half, but finished to score 13 pts along with 13 rebounds and 1 block. Kiki Herbert-Harrigan also scored 13 pts along with 9 boards, 2 blocks and 1 steal. Finally, Ty Harris added 11 pts, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Overall the Gamecocks shot 12 for 29 (41%) from behind the 3-pt. line, turning the tables on the prolific 3-pt. shooting Razorbacks, who shot 8-18 (44%) themselves. Overall the Gamecocks shot 34-82 (42%) from the field to Arkansas shooting 21-64 (33%).

The Gamecocks now await the results of the next game between #2 Seed Mississippi State and #3 Seed Kentucky, that's scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM. The SECT Championship Game will tip off tomorrow (Sunday March 8th) at 3:00 PM...
