***WBB #4/5 South Carolina (12-1) vs #13/13 Kentucky (11-1) Game Thread***

South Carolina doubles up Kentucky 24-12 after the first 10 minutes of the game. The Gamecocks jumped out big against South Dakota in their last game too, and ended up hanging on in a hard-fought tooth-and-nail battle through the final 3 quarters. Lets hope they navigate this game better tonight, and keep the hot hand going....

With Coach Staley's system of rotating, we have 4 reserves plus starter Cooke in to start the 2nd Period against 4 of UK's starters. Only 2 Wildcats have scored thus far for Kentucky.....

Gamecocks kept the strong shooting going through the 2nd Quarter, and lead the game 49-28 at halftime. The Gamecocks shot 20-32 (63%) compared to UK shooting 11-33 (33%). A huge improvement in the 1st half of this game for the Gamecocks are in their ball security: they only have 5 turnovers in the first half, with 13 assists, compared to UK with 11 TOs and only 5 assists. The Gamecocks are dominating in points off turnovers with an 18-6 advantage....

The game sees the biggest offensive explosion yet in the 3rd Quarter as both teams combine for 54 points. The Gamecocks secure 30 of them, and extend their lead to 79-52 through 3 periods. Reserves Grissett, Amihere, and Saxton have come in and played great, combining for 23 points and 9 rebounds thus far....

The 4th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks route the 13th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats 99-72 in their SEC opener to improve to 13-1, 1-0 on the season. Six Gamecocks scored in double-digits tonight, led by the four freshman Zia Cooke (15 pts, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals), Brea Beal (15 pts, 5 rebounds, 3 steals), Aliyah Boston (14 pts, 6 rebounds), and Laeticia Amihere (14 pts, 4 boards). Victaria Saxton added 11 pts and 4 rebounds, and Ty Harris added 10 pts, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. The trio of Amihere, Saxton, and Lele Grissett (8 pts, 3 rebounds) off the bench in a reserve role helped keep the offense rolling along, and reserve Destannie Henderson completed the strong balance with just 4 pts, but a game-leading 8 assists to go along with 3 steals.

This victory ends a 4-game stretch at home for the Gamecocks: they start a stretch of SEC play involving 9 games, with 6 of them on the road, as they travel this Sunday to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama at 6:00 PM. Kentucky (11-2, 0-1) return home to Lexington and host Tennessee, also this Sunday.....

It's easy to take Dawn and her staff for granted since they win all the time.

She knows she's got something special now and I have been seeing it in her pressers now for a while this season.

UK doesn't have Macie Morris this year and Mizzou doesn't have Sophie Cunningham or Cierra Porter.
