ABOUT THIS GAME

  • The Gamecocks and Huskies have met at least once every season since 2014-15, but South Carolina is looking for its first win over UConn.
  • Tonight's game is the Gamecocks' 10th against a nationally ranked opponent this season, the most in the country.

PARKING/FAN INFORMATION

  • Parking is available for $10 per vehicle in the Discovery Garage and the City Garage (located near Pendleton, Park and Lincoln Streets). (See parking map here (PDF))
  • FREE parking is available in the Pendleton Street Garage (corner of Pickens and Pendleton). The shuttle from that location, which departs and returns to Pickens Street, begins two hours before tipoff and runs until one hour after the game ends. (See campus and shuttle map here (PDF))

Will this game be a sell-out? We apparently are down to just 1,000 or so general admission seats in the upper regions of Colonial Life, plus a number of student section seats, so even if we don't sell out, we'll be darn close. But just 1,000 seats for walk-up traffic and students looking for something to do on a Monday night in February should go fairly quickly.

The previous two games in this series in Colonial Life Arena in 2016 and 2018 were sell out games. Lets make it 3 in a row. This game against Connecticut is perhaps the final unconquered frontier for the WBB program for proving itself belonging among the Titans of the sport during the Dawn Staley Era......

I would dislike losing to UCONN and winning the national title again. It would give fuel to the haters.

I feel good about this game but I am a little nervous. After their loss to Oregon I bet we'll get their 'A' effort. I have a feeling someone on UCONN's team will be playing lights out -- like perfectly guarded but still hitting shots type of night. I hope we can match it.

I think we win in the end and pull away in the second half. Final score: 76 - 68. Gamecocks win!

We beat a much taller Vols team with speedy, aggressive Guard play.

We haven't really consistently had that since the NC team.

I think that gives us an advantage tonight.

Same starting five as before for the Gamecocks:

Ty Harris, Zia Cooke, Kiki Herbert-Harrigan, Aliyah Boston, Brea Beal

Connecticut fields a starting five of Crystal Dangerfield, Cristyne Williams, Anna Makurat, Megan Walker, and Olivia Nelson-Ododa.....

I would have never guessed we would hold UCONN to 2 points in the first quarter...wow!

A strong defensive effort by the Gamecocks, and they lead Connecticut  11-2  after one Quarter. The Gamecocks have played suffocating defense, holding the normally strong-shooting Huskies to 1-16 shooting for the opening period, but South Carolina has struggled to shoot themselves, shooting 5-21. I expect the 2nd Qtr. to see better shooting by both teams....

Yep, just as I figured - both teams have opened the 2nd Qtr. shooting 7-8, but it was CT with the lone miss, and the Gamecocks lead 20-9  just under 7 minutes to play in the 1st half. Boston only has 3 points thus far, but she has 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals...

Gamecocks take the  35-23  lead into the halftime break. Ty Harris leads the way with 12 points and 6 assists. Boston has 5 pts and 10 rebounds. The Gamecocks totally dominated in the 1st half, and yet only lead the game by 12 points, so they are not out of danger yet. But they have only 2 team fouls, so they should be totally good to go for the 2nd half. Keep it up, ladies!!!

Boston can take it a little easy with the threes.  She proved she can hit one, but she doesn't need to take them exclusively.

WatchESPN no workie for me.

Seems like we are attempting too many threes trying to put them away for good.

Need to chill.

Gamecocks started the 3rd Period better than they ended it, but still out-scored Connecticut by 1 point and lead through 3 quarters  54-41 . We once had a 21-pt. lead, but the game is once again closer than I would like it to be against CT. Lets close out the game strong, Gamecocks.....
