DE MJ Webb of Madison, GA was back at USC Monday, not for camp but to let his grandmother get here first look at the campus and the academics.
“Every time I got there I always enjoy it,” Webb said. “This visit was more for my grandmother. This was her first time coming to South Carolina with me so it really was a trip for her and I think she enjoyed it. She got to see the dorms, the academic advisers, really everything. I think South Carolina has a great academic support staff just like all the other schools. At South Carolina, you can tell they are really in to getting the players to graduate. That’s what I like about their academic staff.
The Gamecock coaches were busy running a camp while Webb was there but he did talk with Will Muschamp, Lance Thompson and Bryan McClendon.
“It was just like, ‘you know we love you’ and that they need me and everything,” Webb said. “I love it whenever they tell me.”
Webb was at Tennessee Friday and Auburn Saturday. He’s going back to Tennessee June 18th and will go to Kentucky in July. He’s also had Florida, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Mississippi State high on his favorites list.
“I love South Carolina because of my relationship with Coach Muschamp and Coach Thompson and they are still high up on my list,” he said. “That’s why I’ve set that an official visit for the Georgia game.”
Webb hasn’t set any other official visits at this time though he thinks Auburn will get one. He’s not claiming a favorite right now but USC, Auburn and Tennessee are prominent. And he’s not expecting Georgia to become a factor.
“I feel like I want to get away from home,” Webb said. “Georgia is thirty minutes away. Auburn and South Carolina and the other schools they are far enough away that I can always drive back home if I need to. They are only like two hours or four, it’s not really a drive.”
Webb isn’t considering Clemson but he recently was fishing in Lake Hartwell right near the campus with some friends and caught a striper he estimated to weigh 22 pounds.
