DE MJ Webb 6'3" 271lbs of Madison, GA has seen plenty of recruiters come thru this school this spring and next week he’s going to hit the road himself with a day trip with his coach to USC. Webb has offers from the Gamecocks and Clemson and thinks highly of both at this point.
So far this spring coaches from USC, Clemson, LSU, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan and Michigan State have been by his school. USC defensive line coach Lance Thompson was by to check in Webb and continues to impress upon him his need for him in Columbia.
“He’s just like he wants to coach me, he wants to be my next coach at the next level and everything,” Webb said. “He’s like I’m one of their top guys for their defensive line.”
Webb is planning to visit USC Wednesday and he wants to tour around the campus and get a closer look at the football facilities.
“I’m pretty big on South Carolina,” Webb said. “I could see myself playing in the Garnet and Black. I like the connection I have with the coaches and all. I’m going to get back over there a lot this summer I know and try and get a better feel for the campus, hang out with the players more and just see how it goes from there.”
Webb also plans to visit Auburn for the Big Cat Weekend. He’s also going to Ole Miss and Mississippi this summer.
Webb spent a full day at Clemson April spending about nine hours seeing everything he could about the football program and the academic side of campus. Tiger recruiters Marion Hobby and Tony Elliott have been thru his school and they continue to express their interest as well.
“They’re saying that they really like me,” Webb said. “They want just like a straight defensive end and they were saying and I was one of the top guys. I’ll play defensive end or D-tackle, whichever position the coach needs me to play.”
Webb also has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida State, Kentucky and others. He does not have a favorites list but he said Georgia Tech is coming after him pretty hard.
“I feel good about Georgia Tech,” he said without calling Tech a favorite. He cited his long standing relationship with the Yellow Jackets’ staff as a key factor in his feelings toward them.
Webb was going to wait until Signing Day on a decision but he said now he will make his call either before his season or afterwards.
