Weekend notes on the Gamecocks’ prospects

June 18, 2017

Carter Bradley, a 3-star from Providence High School in Jacksonville, Fla., is expected to visit Columbia next month. According to Phil Kornblut, Bradley, who’s the son of former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley, has been invited to the next Spurs Up recruiting event on the 21st.

Ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 29 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2018, Carter lists several Power 5 offers, including Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.

2020 target

On Thursday, South Carolina offensive coordinator Kurt Roper had an up-close look at Robby Ashford, a 2020 quarterback from Hoover (Ala.) High School. Ashford threw in Columbia that morning before departing for Athens, Ga.

“(Roper) said that he loved everything that he saw and he wants me to come back down and visit,” Ashford said.

After throwing at Georgia, Ashford was offered by the Dawgs. Illinois and Missouri have also offered.

TE target

With 3-star Gavin Schoenwald off the board to Vanderbilt, South Carolina has to look elsewhere for a 2018 tight end recruit.

The Gamecocks played host to 3-star Tommy Tremble on Friday.

“I really loved the campus and the coaching staff. They said that I would be a dynamic player on the line and when spread out as well,” Tremble told Phil Kornblut.

Georgia, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UCLA, along with South Carolina, were said to be among the favorites. Tremble, the No. 20 tight end in the Class of 2018, attends Wesleyan School in Norcross, Ga.
