Weekend visitors; intel on 4-stars Rick Sandidge, Channing Tindall

November 10, 2017

South Carolina recruiting guests

Several prospects have confirmed plans to visit for South Carolina’s game Saturday against Florida. Three of them will be official visitors.

  • 5-star DE K.J. Henry (Clemmons, N.C.)
  • 4-star DB Saivion Smith (St. Petersburg, Fla.)
  • 3-star DE Jarrett Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.)
There are a handful of unofficial guests set to come, too.

  • 2018 4-star OT Dylan Wonnum (Tucker, Ga.)
  • 2019 4-star DB Jammie Robinson (Cordele, Ga.)
  • 2019 DB Deonte Stanley (Latta, S.C.)
  • 2020 4-star DE Jacolbe Cowan (Charlotte, N.C.)
  • 2020 CB Miles Brooks (Jacksonville, Fla.)
  • 2020 ATH Fred Davis (Jacksonville, Fla.)
  • 2020 RB Max McClendon (Jacksonville, Fla.)
  • 2021 QB Ridge Jacobs (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Big-time defensive tackle talks turkey

Four-star defensive tackle Rick Sandidge was among the highly rated prospects in Athens, Ga., last weekend for the South Carolina-Georgia game.

“It just increased my relationship with Georgia,” Sandidge said during a recent interview with DawgNation’s Jeff Sentell.

Will he be back for another visit? Possibly, but probably not for an official visit, Sandidge said. In fact, the Concord (N.C.) High School senior may not be back at all before he reaches a decision.

“It would be nice to come back,” he said. “But I don’t feel like I really need to.”

Apparently, it’s the same deal for South Carolina and North Carolina.

“If I feel like I need to take a visit there to get more of a feel, then I will take a visit there,” Sandidge said. “But I would like to use those [official] visits for far away. But maybe if I don’t have another faraway school that I would like to go see or that I have already seen, then I would probably use that to go somewhere else.”

Another battle between buddies

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp and Georgia coach Kirby Smart have already gone head-to-head for several prospects. Among the biggest ones in the 2018 cycle: 4-star linebacker Channing Tindall, who received his Army All-American jersey on Thursday at Spring Valley High School.

“Coach Smart and Coach Muschamp are really close,” Tindall said, when asked which head coach he’s grown closest to as a recruit.

“They are funny. They go back and forth and they know I like South Carolina and Georgia a lot. Just the little jokes they make up. For a head coach, I really can’t make a decision for that.”

Last weekend, he went to the South Carolina-Georgia game in Athens.

“I grew up a Georgia fan, not a South Carolina fan.” Tindall said. “So dealing with [Georgia linebackers] coach [Glenn] Schumann and the coaching staff personally is what impressed me. Everything they said they were going to do literally before the season started, they have done.

“They show proof. Which is really impressive to me.”

Tindall indicated on Thursday that he won’t make a decision until later this year.
