Welcome home and other recruiting news for Wednesday

April 20, 2022

Gamecock football coach Shane Beamer issued a commitment alert tweet Tuesday night. “Hope you’re having a great night #GamecockNation …Mine just got a whole lot better !!” Beamer wrote in his tweet. As of early Wednesday morning (late Tuesday night), no recruit has gone public with a commitment to the Gamecocks, but that’s not unusual. Beamer does not sit on commitments. He immediately alerts his fanbase and leaves it up to the player to announce the commitment on his own timeline. Currently, there are multiple Beamer commitment alerts (three if memory serves) yet to be acknowledged by the corresponding prospect.

One Gamecock target is set to announce his commitment Wednesday at 5:00 PM on his Instagram account. TE Jayvontay Conner (6-4 230) of Kernersville, NC narrowed his list to USC, Virginia Tech, UCF, Maryland, Mississippi State, and Florida State. He visited USC for a spring practice earlier in the month. He also visited Virginia Tech, UCF, and Florida State.

Gamecock target Zahbari Sandy of Washington, DC is closing in on a commitment announcement. He visited USC last week. He also visited for the Clemson game. Sandy has also seen Tennessee, Maryland, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Maryland. He has named a top five of USC, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Maryland, and West Virginia.

Gamecock target LB Tony Rojas plans to name his fop four this weekend. He made Gamecock stops earlier this month as he toured through the Southeast. He plans to visit Penn State for their spring game Saturday.

Gamecock target QB Dylan Lonergan plans to name a top five Friday, and those will get his official visits. USC is expected to be on the shortlist. He visited for the spring game.
