Well worth the wait for Gamecock fans, another win over Georgia (AUDIO)September 13, 2014
USC saw it’s 18 game home winning streak end with the loss to Texas A&M, but Saturday night the Gamecocks kept alive a streak that’s personal to their fans.
They had to wait an extra hour and half for kickoff because of weather delays, but that only added to the drama as the Gamecocks beat Georgia 38-35 for the third straight time at Williams-Brice Stadium, their first three game home winning streak ever over the Bulldogs. And its their fourth win in the last five games of the series.
The victory also is Steve Spurrier’s 16th against Georgia making him the coach with the most wins against the Bulldogs.
The Gamecock defense continued the resurgence from the Texas A&M game. For the second straight outing they allowed fewer yards than the previous game. And the offense had a nice balance of Dylan Thompson’s passing and the running of Brandon Wilds and Mike Davis.
But at the end of the night, the game came down to inches in the Gamecocks’ favor. A missed field goal by Georgia’s Marshall Morgan that was wide right by inches. And a first down gained by Thompson by just the nose of the football.
It was that close and that’s the kind of season it figures to be from here on for USC. The Gamecocks are good enough to beat anyone on their schedule but they probably are not going to blow out many people.
