What Charles Montgomery said about posting commitment to Gamecocks

April 06, 2019 | SportsTalk Radio Network

2021 ATH Charles Montgomery of Tampa has wanted to publicly commit to USC for several weeks.  Last month he visited the campus following a 7-on-7 event in Myrtle Beach but he didn’t get the chance to meet with any coaches in person.  Saturday he was back with some of his travelling squad teammates for another visit.

Montgomery said he got the chance to talk briefly with Will Muschamp and had a more extensive conversation with recruiter Travaris Robinson.  It was to Robinson, Montgomery said, that he made his commitment, a commitment he published on Twitter and added to his page profile.

However, this is a commitment has yet to be acknowledged by Muschamp with his “Spurs Up” tweet and thus remains unofficial at best.  But that hasn’t reduced Montgomery’s enthusiasm about the Gamecocks and his believe that he’s a commitment.

“It’s a lot,” Montgomery said about his reasons for committing.   “Not even just the big things. It reminds me so much of my high school and the growth factor. I’m a hard working person and I wanted to go to a school where I can work hard as well as compete.”

Montgomery said he also was impressed by what he saw on his visit.

“It was all phenomenal. Just everything, the weight room, the studios, everything really. Yea, we recorded a song,” he said.

Coming off his conversation with Robinson, Montgomery said he feels confident things will work out for him with the Gamecocks.

“At this point, I’m 100% committed,” Montgomery said.  “He (Robinson) told me to take my time and I can post it.”

Robinson said the Gamecocks like him as a slot receiver and a return specialist.
