What happened to Hilinski?

I can understand the freshman mistakes (spiking it backwards, pick 6 in the end zone) but my concern is the sudden and complete loss of accuracy. What the heck happened?   Was he really playing that hurt or did he just play out of his mind for two games (including Bama!) and now has come back to earth?

His elbow wasn't right. He was more accurate in the 2nd half after, as Mike Morgan noted in the broadcast, the tape had been removed from the inside of his arm. I'm thinking the treatment for his soreness might have been causing him some issues. Kinesiology tape is all the rage in sports medicine these days.

His elbow wasn’t right and he was in pain. They claim an MRI was clean so hopefully that is actually the case for him.

I'm a little worried that he's playing through an injury that he shouldn't play with. Got a lot of football left in him. Gotta think long term

I’m there with you. The staff says no structural damage but I honestly don’t know that I trust their injury reports.

Surely Ryan wouldn’t play if it truly was structural instead of playing through pain and I hope it’s the latter but I guess time will tell.

He was definitely off early but then went on a good run in the 2nd half till the pick 6.  That was a terrible play and momentum killer.  Hope he's fully healed and we do a better job of turning RZ visits into TDs going forward.  I'm more nervous when we're in the RZ no days than I am when opponents are.

He's a competitor, but he's still a young FR QB that will make his share of mistakes.

He hopefully will watch film so the game will slow down for him and he will get settled back in.

The dude has a lot on his shoulders right now and he's got to get used to it and settle down.

Part of that is letting people know when he shouldn't be playing, but that's hard to do when there really is no good back-up QB right now.

I agree. pressure filled situations made it hard for people to make the right decision.

When he was clearly struggling, there was no reason not to try Joyner.  Our coaches are afraid to make a change when it's obvious a change is needed.  Play-calling was horrible, which we're accustomed to, but execution was also very poor.  I really can't name more than a handful of plays that actually looked successful.  Our coaches suck and even when they do get something right, our players can't execute...which points to our coaches suck more

I think entirely too many long balls were called in that game. There were only a handful of screens or slants or short crossing routes that I can remember, and of course the run game was on fall break or something.

He was hurt, that much is obvious, yet the coaching staff refused to either make a change in personnel and let joyner run the game, or change the game plan and not rely on a hurt TF QB making his first road start. The lack of dedication to setting up the run was obvious, the play calling was vanilla and uninspired, and they just kept doing the same thing that didn't work over and over again. I really think if Muschamp wants to keep HC next to his name, he needs to make a change in the pressbox and give someone else a shot at running the offense, this Jekyll and Hyde business has to go.

He was 36/57 against Bama trying to get the win for us. So it was the Bama game, not the record-setting outing versus CSU where he got hurt. I doubt it's a hidden issue with him or anything like that.  Sixty attempts will put a strain on any QB's arm, much less one that is not used to starting.  That's like forcing a pitcher to throw 130 pitches in a game and there is some accountability with the coaching staff for not keeping track of stuff like that.

Let him rest up and give Dak some PT in the meantime and keep moving forward.  He was doing what he thought it took to get the win for us and you have to respect that.

I’ve never heard of a “passing count” for a QB, lol.  I mean I guess that’s a lot of passes but I would think he would throw even more during a regular everyday practice.

Dak looked lost when he came in early in the game.  They know he’s not a great passer and would’ve just sent 9 guys after him.  He did well late against the Mizzou 2nd string but the early series he had was a disaster.

Hopefully RH gets back on track this Saturday.  I think our offense can be very good and still win some games with him throwing darts like he had been.  I’m not giving up on the team yet.

i cant speak to why he struggled throwing the ball in the 1st half, but i was concerned we threw it so much vs bama and ran it so little with the backs despite their success.  i think you have to force the running game even if it that means taking him off the field for a few plays or a series or two to gain some balance so that youre not asking him to win the game by himself.  throwing that much on the college level with no balance is not a recipe for success as a team no matter how good the qb is.

i place more blame on that failed dak first drive on that utterly ridiculous formation we used.  you put him out there you need to run our regular offense or a shotgun two back set so you can use misdirection to try and force the run against a team putting more guys in the box.

Young man will comeback strong Saturday. He has the right stuff for A top SEC QB.
