What happened to Hilinski?

Word during camp as that Ryan and Collin were neck and neck, with Collin winning out at the end because of his familiarity with CMB's offense. OK, fair enough. But  somewhere along the line, Hilinski got leapfrogged by Doty, plus I don't think I've even SEEN him on the sidelines all year during games, not communing with Collin, sending in signals - anything?  I dunno, just seems weird.

I read somewhere that there was a personalty clash between Hilinski and Bobo. I have no idea how true that is, of course.

I mentioned something yesterday, about some scuttlebutt I heard about Hilinski. I heard he has an attitude problem and is very impressed with himself. He is all about himself, is not team oriented, and thinks he is better than everyone else.  Bobo doesn’t like his attitude, and neither does the team. He has very little to do with anyone on the team, and keeps to himself, and is very aloof.

This is what I have heard, but I don’t know this first hand, and can not verify any of it. I am not saying this is true, I’m just passing along info. However, it would explain some things. Please take this with a grain of slat, and not as gospel truth.

Hilinski came here because of Boom, and Boom had Hilinski ahead of Joyner and Urich - two more mobile QBs.

As Bobo said, he was going to use Doty at some point because Mizzou had trouble with running QBs (so do we, LOL). When you are the interim head coach AND the offensive coordinator, and you cannot move the ball or score a point in the first half, you have to do something.

Hilinski would have had the same problems as Hill. Moving forward, we have to decide if we want a Dual Threat or pure passer at quarterback. And with our lack of WRs, DT seems like the better option.
That was a major problem with Muschamp. He would recruit RPO guys but not use them in their preferred system. What he did with Joyner is disgraceful, but now he's gone. Good riddance.

As Ace and others have said, Hilinski is a dropback passing,non-mobile QB. As our line has shown it has trouble holding passblocks, putting Hilinski in would be like having Hill in( both would be okay if we could pass block better or at least have more time to throw). The mobile QB gives us the best chance for any success given the line issues.

.... putting Hilinski in would be like having Hill..
I checked their passing stats and they are almost identical. I realize Ryan was a TR FR last season.

For now Luke Doty is the spark....and we need lots of sparks.

Truer words could not be said. If he can put pressure on with his legs they will have to respect that ... a read option with TWO excellent runners - Harris and Doty - suddenly becomes a realistic and effective weapon, as opposed to one runner and one poor guy who has had THREE ACLs.

I believe Hilinski will announce he is transferring after the season ends. I’ve heard rumors other players will be too. I don’t understand quitting a team because the coach was fired, but that seems to be the culture Muschamp fostered.

I get liking your HC.  I get supporting your HC.  At some point though don't you want to win games?

I think CWM's players really loved him, bottom line. Like the headline in the P&C said last week: "He did everything right except win games." Not easy to be a player on that team right now, I would think.

I think it's CF culture in general now with the transfer portal. It sued to be players were stuck for 4 years once they singed. not anymore.

That's pretty typical when a coach leaves, and sometimes is addition by subtraction.

The guys in prominent roles will stay. The guys that leave will allow larger signing classes in subsequent years, plus room for grad transfers.

A little short-term pain for long-term game.
I just hope we don’t lose some of the better guys. I’ve heard that Lloyd has been talking to Georgia, and Burch is talking about transferring. I hope those rumors aren’t correct.

When Doty came in, the whole team seemed to take a couple of ticks up. Lots more energy and when he took off running did you notice all the big linemen running up to push the Tiger players off him and pick him up? That should tell us something. Compare Doty to Hill in the presser, day and night difference. Doty actually lit the room and engaged the writers. Not Hill.

I appreciate everything Hill did and tried to do - the kid is a gamer. But I have to think CMB knows the only prayer he has this weekend is the energy and running that Doty brings - put Hill in to start and the offense is going to ask themselves wtf - and who could blame them?

It's a damn shame too. I had a fortune invested in the return of the mullet hats.
