Why does it take USC so long to do anything?  Other teams have fired head coaches and hired new head coaches, and started adding staff, and we still haven't officially announced our OC.  We haven't named a new S&C coach, or gotten on with the possible DC position to my knowledge.  We have been farting around with rebuilding a team for 4 years and gotten virtually nowhere, seemingly.  Our basketball team has been a mess, with the exception of the Final Four year, for 8 years, and our baseball team is slowly getting better, hopefully.  Why do some universities have a problem, figure out the solution, and fix it quickly, while we are mired in sub-mediocrity for years upon years?  It has been this way for many, many years.  Is crappy decision making something that is required to be on the BOT, or is sub-mediocrity so ingrained in the culture, that it just permeates everything, and just won't go away?  In the times when we have a program succeed, it gets pissed away rather than built upon, such as the Spurrier years, and our brief baseball dynasty.  What is our deal?

Great questions, we seemed to be mired in incompetence.  Take Muschamp's 20 million buy out for example.  Even if Tanner master minded that colossal pile of crap why did no one on the BOT stop it?

I agree with you Cockyandproud.  This is what makes what Dawn and Tanner (baseball Tanner) did so remarkable.  They did it in spite of all the historical current factors that prevent our teams from having success.  I was very happy during the Spurrier 10 win seasons but we really have zero to show for that.  Even back then I realized it wasn't sustainable and we couldn't always count on the multiple outside factors that had to take place in order for us to get there.  The final 4 run was an absolute Cinderella story while it lasted and yet again, nothing was done to capitalize on that.  We're now so far removed from 10 win FB and Final 4 basketball that it's all a distant memory.  I attribute most of our mediocrity to mismanagement over generations.  Board, University, AD, Coaches.  All historically inept as a whole.  Very similar to those in our state house, back room, shady deals of good ole boys protecting their gravy train.  So long as the sheep...I mean voters/fans keep showing up, nothing changes.

Not saying I am happy about it, but it's really par for the course for most programs. Very few schools find success year after year through coaching transitions. It's very hard to sustain.

Look at some powerhouse programs in the past and see where they are now. Tennessee, USC (west), FSU, Miami, VT, Texas, Michigan, Penn St. - All struggling. Even blue bloods go through it. Alabama was a middle of the road SEC team for years prior to Saban. Fla is a shell of itself during the SOS and URban Meyer days. ND. Penn St. MIchigan.

Fact is - Finding the right coach is a crapshoot a best. "homerun hires" turn into flops - Tom Herman . 'Meh' hires turn into national champs - Dabo. Same goes in the NFL. Bill Belichick was run out of Cleveland before taking over the Pats.

Not making excuses because we should strive for the best. Just putting some perspective on things.

Around 2pm today will be made official on Bobo. Chances are one of Bobo staff comes with him and Erik Kimrey still a possibility as well for WR coach. Then should move on S and C. coach hire.

Also the changes om Booms income. Will take a drop on yearly salary, But still have the same buyout clause limit will stay the same. No movement on lowering the cap.

I would love to see Kimrey on the staff. He’s coached some great teams at Hammond.

The downside to Kimrey on staff is we'll probably lose his podcast, which is really the only one I enjoy.

Yes. That will be missed. I love him talking to past players and coaches and hearing ‘insider’ stories about past teams.

Man I really enjoy his podcast.
Yeah he puts out top notch content. I've listened to all of the others, and none of them can hold my interest. It seems like you either get the "premium subscription" peddlers or the random know-nothing fan pretending to be a journalist. Kimrey actually has a real job and does the podcast on the side and still blows everyone else out of the water.

"Premium subscription folks have to stay in the guidelines of being positive regardless of the facts that in areas that do need people brought out for there poor job performance. Best way I can put it. Remember all those folks have to play the party line. There inside info depends on there good standings with people running the Athletic department down to the waterboy. So I do understand because 10 years ago that was me and my staff had to do to get the juicy stuff. I would get calls giving info like something big etc. that other folks would not get because they liked are kindness.

I don't have an issue with the positivity. I just don't like the pay walls for lackluster information. Take TBS for example. They post several articles a week with supposed "inside information" which generally boil down to a long-winded way of saying that they really don't know anything. Sometimes that bleeds over in to the podcast world too, but none of them, other than Kimrey, even put out a good free podcast. And they have the gall to ask for money?

Now once Kimrey gets a Patreon or whatever setup, I'll gladly donate to that, because his shows are worth it. Everyone else needs to go back to the drawing board or just give up that medium altogether.

In defense of Frank, we didn't capitalize on the final four run because no one went to the games the next season. He did have success the year before that when we won a crazy number of games but ended up out of the tourney because of bad out of conference scheduling. Completely agree on the brilliance of dawn and Ray as coaches. I'd also argue that Ray's biggest mistake as the ad was convincing sos to stay when he didn't want to do the job anymore. Cwm is just the aftermath of that mistake

Good post totally agree.

I have not listened to the podcast, but have heard him interviewed many times and watched him teams play on many occasions.  I really want us to get some homegrown guys worked into this staff.  Marcus was a nice start, now we need some future coaches.
