This year was one of the best offensive performances under Steve Spurrier. In fact, I believe it was the BEST year offensively under Spurrier, at least from a points scored perspective. We averaged 31.5 points a game, and scored 35 or more points 7 times during the season. However, there is always room for improvement. What changes would you like to see next year?
There are a couple of things I'd like to see. First, I'd really like to see them use tight ends more effectively. I thought we were going to use them a lot more than we did this season, and I hope we use them a lot more next season. I think Adams could be a huge part of this offense.
I'd also like to see us pound the ball more often. With the stable of running backs we have available, I think we should employ a system kind of like Alabama and switch them in and out repeatedly. It keeps their legs fresh and wears down the defense. Obviously this is contingent on the offensive line improving tremendously over this season.
Finally, I'd like to see more creativity in the passing game. With the speed we have on the outside, I'd love to see us try more slants and less screens. We've been using screens a ton for the past couple of years, and they never seem to do much. We need to figure out a way to get our receivers the ball out in space and let them go to work.
