We all know USC will have to improve to ultimately win the East. Thank God we escaped Nashville w/ the W. Our ceiling is still very high but I think we need to see an large escalation in the level of play from week 1 to week 2. Here are some things I would love to see....
1) Special Teams. I seriously hope we weren't trying to kick it out of the endzone. Everyone seems to have a kicker capable of not allowing returns. We will face far too many threats this year that can house the ball. We have to be able to boom into out of the endzone. Hull was disappointing as well.
2) Byron Jerideau - our space eating freakishly strong starting DT had 1 tackle in the game vs Vandy. He needs to be a force up the middle and he needs to be it NOW.
3) DE Rotation - It was the first game and it was humid but it seemed to me that D. Taylor and Clowney were gassed at times. We are too deep at DE to not spell them w/ Sutton and Fordham. Vandy ran some hurry up but we have got to find a way to keep fresh bodies going hard up front.
4) Holloman - it was a quiet night for our SPUR. Need to see this guy more involved and constantly swarming the ball. Allen was the leading tackler on the team last year and this position sets up a player like Holloman to follow in those footsteps.
5) Offense. Too much to list here. Pass blocking has to improve for us to even really start talking about consistent throws from Connor or the route running/ ability for our WRs to get open. Let alone the play calling which seemed to lack imagination (like all openers we play)
6) Davis / Miles / Wilds - its obvious that we need a change of pace back to spell Lattimore. Miles/Wilds were both hurt in this game and each carry seemed so crucial that we didn't get a chance to play Davis much -- but we have to get one of these backups rolling.
7) Dylan Thompson - just get ready to play. Please Please Please get ready to play or someone please tell me Nosovitch has at least half the playbook down.
